:TU: 10th round stoppage of a man who has never been stoped :TU: constant pressure through every round[dropped him in the 1st],i think ro had basically had enough and looked in some desress due to a ear problem.hatton in that form can imo beat kostya tzu.hope his cuts hold up,i have never seen him so sharp :TU:

Hatton beat another stiff, he beat him well but I reckon there's more chance of Hatton vs. Ndou for a vacant title. tonights fight meant nothing

Oliveira should've never taken this fight. Making 140 was too much for him--147 was often a challenge in the last two years.

Credit to Hatton for doing what he should've. Too bad he's really taken a step backwards in opposition since Tackie and Phillips.

I have to admit, an exciting fight and a good performance against a slightly shop worn if horribly brave opponent

Hatton was reckless at times and still too open to a right, but , on this kind of form, he would be a handful for anyone in the top 5

If he ever gets to fight them is another matter altogether

Hatton's so good at stopping the other guy punching, but it has to be said a lot of that is because he's allowed to shove and maul by Warren's boxing union's appointed refs. Oliveira did look a tad worn, kinda slow and lethargic, even in the first. But, good choice of words, Hatton was awsome and his stamina is better than ever.

Yes it was certainly a good performance, it'd be tough for anyone to ask for anything better than Hatton displayed tonight.

However, I don't buy into Nelson and McGuigan's theory about Hatton not repeating the mistakes of tonight if he should happen to go in against one of the real top men. The problems that were highlighted are things that have been with him for a long while, and I don't believe they will magically vanish if he gets a real test. If he lets his left drop all the time, if he gets too square on, if he smothers his own work, or if he doesn't quite move his head enough when moving backwards, then he's in for trouble when (if) the big one happens. He'll have to produce a flawless fight to beat Tszyu, and I'm unconvinced he'll be able to do so.

I couldn't help thinking that I'd love to see him in with Mayweather though. Their styles would make for a great fight. Shame it'll never happen.

fornicating disgraceful commentary. i nearly puked all over my living room. Everybody and their mother knew that this fight was a mismatch from the off. And now people are impressed with Hatton. What a joke. let's see who Hatton fights next. I say he's scared to fight the best (Cotto, Mayweather, Judah, Witter, tszyu, Harris). He's going to do what he does best and fight another mismatch in front of adoring fans who come onto message boards praising him, "Oh, that was great by Hatton, marvellous". WAKE UP YOU IDIOTS IT WAS A MISMATCH!!!!!!!! Look at Oliverias freakin record for the past 3 years! Hatton holds onto his WBU belt. Why didn't he ever fight for the WBO one? err, Cotto and Corley come to mind. As soon as Hatton fights a Cotto or a Tszyu type, he'll get bombed into next week and you can count on that. Hatton's been mandatory and not fought for titles before, even removing himself from a mandatory position. 38 fights and he hasn't stepped up?? but it's OK. He looks "awesome" against weight drained 36 year old challengers who were dominated by tackie like Ray Oliviera.

I bet anybody on this board 1000 quid RIGHT NOW, that Hatton doesn't fight tszyu next. Any takers?

What odds will you give on Hatton vs. Ndou for a vacant title?

Unfortunately I didn't see the fight. Although Hatton may have looked awsome you still have to take into consideration who he was fighting against. Oliveria has obviously seen better days. They must put Hatton in against someone in the top 5. The point is the imperfections Hatton has, even the smaller ones, will be picked up on by the top guys and exploited and because of his continuing exposure to weaker/older/smaller/opponents Hatton may not be able to cope.

I think Hatton is very good and one strength I have seen in him is the ability to adapt. He is a clever guy and can change his game plan. But the lack of real top quality opponents might make this too big a leap.

I dont think Hatton is scared all we hear is that he wants the fights. I think he is world class his opponents have not been great but he did the job he was paid to do.

If Hatton is such a fake and a walkover why dont they take him on, make it a warm up fight for the boxers you think are true contenders!!!!

Put up or shut up!

Hatton now ranked 3 in the world on Boxrec.

Will that be Hattons choice or will Tszyu make the excuses?

Yeah Hatton looked good tonight, every punch in the book. Not much in front of him though, other than one of the toughest SOBs you'll ever see.

Corner should've pulled him out around 8 - seemed to be a bunch of sadists who were'nt gonna be happy unless Ray was flat out on the canvas. An old pro like that needs a corner to look after him, not send him out on his shield.

But Mickey "Hitman" Vann.........again??

Hatton looks ready for Tszyu as he'll ever be - underdog yes, but it'll be a great fight while it lasts....

Interesting to see how Cotto looks, coming up.

Surely you're joking. Hatton had the chance to fight Vivian Harris but withdrew from being the mandatory contendor. He messed around and lost his opportunity at the WBO belt. Who's ducking him?

No way, Cotto wins.

Oliveira was so dead at the weight its untrue, he had nothing in his shots and his legs were unsteady from the first bell. His balance was attrocious.

Hatton did what he had to do but whats beating up all these punching bags proving?

I think Hatton was very good last night, although remember for any possible Cotto or Tszyu fight, either of those two might just throw a punch or two back. Olive oil didn't test Hatton's defence at all.

I reckon Hatton thinks, rightly or wrongly, that he can truely take on anyone in the division, and I would reckon it would most likely be Tszyu who pulls out of a match up. If you were Tszyu, would you seriously think a bout against Hatton at the MEN is the best out of all the possibilities he has?

Either that or Hatton's little aresehole manager will find an excuse.

In conclusion, I'm going to stop slagging Hatton, for at least a couple of weeks. I don't think it's him who wants to stop him fighting Tszyu.

I hope that Hatton can get a shot a a real title soon, just to prove to himself and all the haters that he is a decent fighter.

I'm not saying that he can beat the best out there, but he will definately give a good account of himself and the US fans would love him.

I think any potential Tszyu fight is too big a step up for me. Hatton has had 38 wins and never been in a 50-50 fight, most of these fights he is not getting hit back at all and is doing as he pleases. To then jump up and start taking shots on the chin from the likes of Tszyu and Cotto - massive leap. Hatton looked good last night but against a shell of a 36 year old who has been found short at the very highest level when he was in his prime. Lets not get carried away!!

If Hatton does come up short against the elite thats down to bad management in my book, he has been fed too many 90-10/80-20/70-30 matchups when he should have had at least a few 60-40/50-50 fights before fighting the very best.

When he does fight one of the top four, the question you have raised is the key one. We know that when Hatton fights with his normal intensity he makes mistakes that lead to him getting caught. Against a top fighter will he do that?

I actually disagree with you on this one. I think one of the best things about Hatton is his risk assessment. Any fighter who had the sort of early experience that he did of nursing himself through fights with serious cuts will develop a good radar for this.

In any number of fights Hatton has shown the ability to adapt his style to the threat in front of him. He was too cocky early against Magee and paid the price - his aggression was more controlled afterwards. Against Tackie he fundamentally altered his style throughout most of the fight to minimise risk while continuing to pound away. Last night he was superb in the first round - straight out of the blocks, all movement, punching from a distance as well as close in. With that style, he barely got touched. After the knockdown, as he began to dominate and saw Oliveira as no threat, he started smothering his work a bit, coming in a bit square on, getting caught by a few rights - but he did not look on one single occasion in discomfort and dominated every round so he just kept ploughing in looking for the stoppage - which he got.

Against any one the top fighters, unless he was totally dominating, Hatton would fight with a more controlled style. He's shown he can do it and do it well. He can jab when he needs to and he can use those corkscrew straights through the middle to devasting effect. And he can ration his body hooking to stop leaving himself open. And he can fight behind a guard with his left held higher than last night. And THAT is how I think he would fight in his world title fight.

But last night I thought was a good performance by Hatton. Oliveira didnt look that weight drained to me or to be totally shot. He did look to be caught cold and finish up on the wrong end of a beating. Ricky was all business last night and his aggressive manner was good to see - there was real intensity there and quite a bit of edge that I havent seen before. He's grown nasty waiting for his shot and that might be the best thing to come out of this slightly wasted year.

Cant see how anyone can say Oliveira was not weight drained, his legs werent there from the start. Watching him jitter around the ring was almost painful and there was nothing in his work no snap at all.

Full credit to Oliveira for soaking it up.

Until the last couple of rounds Oliveira was still throwing plenty of punches - he actually upped his workrate in the middle rounds - no evidence of weight drain there. He took a lot of flush shots without disintegrating - again no evidence of weight drain. He took some great body shots - they will kill you if you are weight drained - he stood up to a lot of them quite well.

Yes Ray's legs looked a bit wobbly sometimes as the blows rained in. Danny Williams' legs werent in the same neighourhood as him last night either - was he weight drained? Both fighters were knocked down in the first round....a clue perhaps?

Oliveira made the weight easily for last night. It might not be his best weight but thats not the same thing as losing a fight because of weight drain.

Well I dont think his legs were there from the first bell and commented on such as I was watching it. He threw lots of arm punches but there was absolutely nothing in any shots he threw no snap at all.

Oliveira made the weight easily??? How can you sat that? Lets bear in mind he's been fighting at welter for near on 4 years.

The sooner Hatton is in with a live opponent the better!

I know for a fact Oliveira made the weight easily actually.

One reason was that he fought under 147 only a week before the fight with Hatton was announced so his weight never got back up again before he went into training.
