I keep telling myself he's only a kid, etc but I'm basically of the same opinion. He didn't like it up him, as Corporal Jones would have said! If Henry had really gone for it in the second half, he SHOULD have had a draw, but if that ref wasn't going to give him the first, forget it, he was never going to get anything.

Although I've criticised the matchmaking for Mitchell in the past, I thought that was exactly the kind of fight he needs. Whether it was by accident or design is up for debate.

I also thought that the fight could have easily been a draw. Mitchell showed almost all the bad habits that I feared he might, and then some more. He lost the first quite clearly, and struggled through the other three. If he's going to be Warren's southern "golden boy" then he's going to have to improve drastically on last nights performance, or have some very creative matchmaking.

Oh, and the headbutt was pure class. :TU:

Damn. I didn't buy this PPV because Hatton was on the bill and I refuse to pay to watch him fight the guys he's fighting. Now that I hear Mitchell almost lost it would have been almost worth the money to see it. The guy is the most obvious total fraud ive ever seen. A complete hype job. Can someone descibe exactly what happened in his fight?

I've just done my write up over at BBN, but no way Mitchell lost or drew that fight, he got at least and a share of the first, should have won it as Janes should have been deducted a point and then won the next three. Showed a bit of maturity not getting drawn into the brawl by Janes in fact.

Good show with good performances by Marsh, Woolcombe, Beavis and Power. Pryce shocked me, thought he was going to get done and also a very good performance by Darren McDermott, who was robbed in only getting a draw, if Kazaz didn't bring so many I wounder if he would have got a share.

McDermott I thought did just enough to win, but was content to just hold for most of the night, Krence started well, but looking at them after there was only one winner

Well, from memory in the first round Mitchell came out his usual showboating self. However, this time he was getting caught. he took at least 5 punches flush on the chin i'd say. James was throwing combinations. Mitchell was reverting to his usual lead lefts but every time he was getting countered. Mitchell even banged his chin at one stage to try to tell James he wasn't hurt. About 10 seconds left in the round and James jumps into Mitchells head with his own head. Very blatant but no point off. It was a clear 10-9 round for james. The next round was even on my scorewcard but Mitchell did a bit better. He won the last 2 but he didn't look spectacular and the lads in the studio basically said he needs to stop his showboating.

What annoys me a lot of the time is the commentary. The comms have clearly been instructed to talk this guy up as much as possible and try to make him out to be a big puncher. He's totally not ready its going to be a long long time before he steps it up. He's gonna be brutally exposed one of these days. The guy Marsh who debuted a few months ago looked a far better prospect. He had some nice moves and a tough debut fight.

According to SN last time out this was supposed to be a step up for him
. Well done to Henry Janes for not quitting and giving it a go he could easily of took money and run.
The boxing people have given the kid plenty of column space up to now and he fought no one.
John Murray 19 won 10 and beat better opposition and is not getting half the attention that Mitchell is , just shows you that a lot of people buy into the SN media Machine. Also Derry Mathews chinned this kid and is as good a prospect as both Murray and Mitchell.
Throw in Jamie Arthur, Steven Bell, and wat good fights we will hope to see in next 12-24 months if all keep winning.

When Mitchell first came around I was seeing articles on major boxing websites talking about him like he was the second coming of Ray Robinson or something. Everything about him is just so false. Its like its all an act, a con job to make money and the tv people are in on it.

You must have been stuck behind a corner post Kev! No, I thought Mitchell won the last three rounds but no way should he have been given the first. Then again, Janes should have had a point off for the butt.

I only gave him a share of the first, and yes I was close to the corner post!!

Was at the show and had a decent enough view.

Mitchell got messed about in the 1st by Janes' fast start and attempt to rough him up. Fair play to Janes he came to win. Kevin soon took control of the fight after taking one or two cuffing shots, without effect. Gave Janes a share of the 1st and Mitchell winning 2,3,4.

Not a big fan of Four rounders. I'm sure if this was a six rounder think the stoppage would have came as Kevin started to relax and started to flow.

Not his best display, but I am sure he will have picked up some valualble experience from this.

I remember Kevin from his amateur days, quite some talent.

Henry Janes is a good fighter, just been matchmaked hard if he had had all the opponents that mitchell has had in that same order they would both prob have same records just now. I will make a prediction mitchell will get beat within his nxt 8 fights :TU:

Not much love for Kevin Mitchell. I think he should have stayed in the unpaid ranks for a while longer. He is lacking in fundamentals and his run of blowouts do not help. For the record I had the fight a draw.

Mitchell is young, but the way he acts he is asking for it....

I would like to see him in a biggish fight before getting it though.....maybe the British Title...

Wow, the wheels nearly came off the wagon there didn't they? I've seen Janes box live before and know he comes to have a go, so was not surprised to see him let his hands fly early. I had Mitchell winning the last three rounds but there was one of them that was very shaky (can't remember which now) that likely was even, if not Janes nicking it. I'd bet if Janes brought as many fans as Mitchell, and Mitchell brought as many as Janes to boxing shows, Janes would have easily picked up that decision. That's how prospects seem to be filtered by SN's 'Star Marketing' strategy. Win a few amateur titles out of the many available, have a large group of mates willing to shell out decent dosh every now and again. Before you know it you have Barry McGuigan in the studio saying 'hey Paul let me tell ya, this kids' world class.'

Cheeky: if only the golden geese of SN would take heed...
