They are worked out by some convoluted formula, I wouldn't read too much into them.

i know that it's all based on mathematics but c'mon, something is wrong with that formula... it used to work better in past, then they have changed something

I don't know if its changed but I wouldn't go by their rankings. The link I posted even says because there are so few women boxers some can end up world ranked with a 0-1 record so it has it flaws.

You only have to look at the all time rankings at HW, Max Schmeling is ranked above Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Foreman, Liston, Dempsey and others.

he had a notable win in Marcos Ahumada.
In the last year only 12 fighters have beaten better opponents according to our ratings.
Ahumda was #35 with PBO at the time Peralta beat him, We got Peralta ranked 42.

What people are not getting, only a small % of fights involve two top 100 fighters. In the scheme of things beating #35 fighter is awesome.

how come some bum beater who lost every significant fight like Ahumada was ranked #35?

He beat Louis, even then being ahead of foreman and Lewis is crazy. He's not far off the other guys, though I'd have him behind them.

First the CW-div ain't deep and second well that how the ratingsystem works. Get points by beating somebody with more.
Overall the rankings that pop up in boxing are always dumb and makes some or no sense.

this guy had 0,2 points, the other had 34,9, he won UD 10, he earned 48,6 points. i don't see any logics here. makes no sense at all.

I haven’t really checked, but doesn’t a fighter receive up to 40 additional points for defeating an opponent who holds a victory over a top 15% ranked fighter within the same weight division?
Marcos Antonio Aumada beat Alejandro Emilio Valori.
I could be wrong, but this is just a guess on my part, since Yamil Alberto Peralta’s BoxRec points increased by 48.605 after beating Marcos Antonio Aumada.

So additional points must be fed into the system
- 0.01 points, when a boxer wins a bout
- 0.1 points, when a boxer defeats an opponent, who already won a bout within 18 months
- 1 point, when a boxer defeats an opponent, who already won a bout against a winning opponent within 18 months
- when defeating an opponent within the top 15 percent of all active boxers, who already defeated an opponent within the top 15 percent of all active boxers
-- 8 points at least
-- as much points as the defeated opponent had before the bout
-- 40 points at most
-- with weight = 1, when the opponent had no loss after his top win, with weight = 1/2 after 1 loss, with weight = 1/4 after 2 losses etc
-- with weight = 1 within 18 months after the opponents top bout, with weight = 1/2 thereafter and decreasing by a factor of 1/2 per another 18 months
- all with weight = cd * v; cd = clear decision factor and v = bout value

Do we really need a thread every time Boxrec's computer ratings system sucks? It always sucks...every single day...no need for a thread.
I don't know what their formula is for rankings, but it needs taken back to the lab.

Because he has beaten fighters ranked 19, 55 and 89 at the time he beat them. It is not about losses, those fighters will have been ranked higher.

the problem is that they have changed something like 1 or 2 years ago and now it sucks even more than it used to... i am 100% sure that some changes have been made, i would like to know from someone who knows that what were these changes.

It wasn't good 1 or 2 years ago either. I was here. It's never been good. I love the site, and the forum, and their efforts as the sports record keeper, but I'm not shy about criticizing the f*ck out of their half assed rankings.
The only thing they're good for is to kinda give you an idea of where some of those guys you never heard of who wind up in a big fight out of nowhere fit into the landscape. That's about it.

If you're interested you should raise this issue in the ratings thread pinned at the top of the forum. I've flagged a couple of situations where I think fighters are getting way too much credit for beating low level competition and it seems like this is another good example. You shouldn't be able to gain 48 points for beating a guy with 35 points. That just makes no sense.
