WILLIAMS KLITSCHKO SPOILER

that was truly horrible to watch.
great heart from danny, but i'm afraid that's all I can say. he was never going to beat klitschko, but he looked totally immobile in there at the weight he was. A lump who was a total sitting duck. vitali hardly broke sweat.
What is more disappointing is that danny's heart allowed him to hang around, just delaying the inevitable demise. He had absolutely zero to beat vitali with, yet he lumbered on through the nightmare, making it truly painful to watch.
hideous. danny is a brave brave man. he just didn't belong in there.

Maybe Williams can get in with Skelton to see who the best in Britain is.

It's a pity that Danny won't even be able to tell his grandkids about it cause with the brain damage he'll possibly have in the long run he probably won't remember the fight in 10 years time.
Vitali was something else though, that last knockdown was a thing of beauty, a quick combo on the inside, a quick step back, left, right, bye bye Danny.

Of course Klitschko was accurate, anyone would with a big lump standing in front of them not moving. The Williams camp blew away any chance they had coming in at that weight. No speed, no snap, no intensity and absolutely no mobility - granted Williams was never going to be the second coming of Ali but just standing in front of Klitschko not throwing and getting clubbed around where was the gameplan?
Most of those punches he was being caught with were so telegraphed it was untrue.
Great heart but thats all you can say.
Good performance I guess by Klitschko but it was an easy nights work Williams made it too easy for him.

I suppose that it gave Williams a reasonable pay day as a reward for beating Tyson.
Just as Francis got a pay day for being battered by Tyson.
After years of Lewis, I dare say that the traditional view of British heavy's will now resurface. The game loser that was outclassed, spent as much time on his back as on his feet but was brave.
Sadly the general British public seem to love a Bruno for getting battered or a Herbie Hyde for being thrown around like a rag doll by Riddock Bowe more than a pugilistic specialist.
I am sure tommorows papers will be full of tales of Danny's bravery but really I would rather be known as a nation of winners rather than game losers.

Brave yes taking that hammering. Personally would have preferred to see him go down in a 2 round shootout and at least giving it a go rather than plodding forward never looking like winning.

I think Johnny Nelson summed it up nicely. "It was like a 7 year old trying to box his older father"

And would you believe that I got called stupid for saying that Klitschko would blast Williams out in 1 and that Williams didn't belong in there. I guess I didn't sound so stupid after 60 seconds of the fight.
What we had was just a case of patriotism. Nothing wrong with that, but as I said before, anybody who picked Williams beforehand, really needed to reanalyse the situation. We even had large sums of money on Williams? Williams doesn't belong in the same room as vitali. fair play to him for reciveing his beating like a man, but he could have easily went in 1 round if klit had landed a few seconds earlier.
Moral of the story?
Don't let patriotism cloud your judgement. I guess it's back to the Matt Skeltons and Michael sproitts for Williams.

two words
One is "brave" the other is "inept"
Reminded me of McDonnell's last big Heavyweight night when Scott Welch (sp?) plodded happlessly against Akinwande

Me too. That made Lewis-Tyson look competitive. He came with absolutely nothing but heart. I admire his courage but, in truth, it was an awful effort in boxing terms.
If he'd been watching Marciano, it must have been his effort against Don Cockell.
As lirva says, don't let patriotism rule your head. I did and am a good few quid lighter as a result, even though until the last few hours, I was saying VK would stop him late on. Stupid boy.

That was like a public flogging. Danny's corner work was a bit bizarre.
I Did like Klitchko's style though, very accurate and didn't rush, but I bet he had harder sparring sessions that the fight.

Danny showed a lot of heart as others have already said. We have seen this before in his wiining fights against Potter and Tyson. However both these fights were against relativly short and squat fighters with short reach. Against Vitali he was in with a very tall fighter with a long reach and who knows how to use these advantages. In my opinion the weight Williams came in at reduced his speed and mobility which lessened his chances of slipping that long jab and getting on the inside, which I assume was the plan. But Danny Williams showed no head movement at all so was a sitting target for the jab and right hand, he spent the entire fight in Vitalis 'power zone'. He just couldn't get near to Vitali to impose his game plan.
I really though Williams was clever enough to get inside the jab and work the bosy more, I was wrong. Vitali was in complete control of the pace and distance of the fight.
Vitali Klitschko looked his usual self, he may not look pretty to watch but he his very strong and effective. His accuracy looked very good but I think that was also due to Danny Williams lack of head movement. I believe that Vitali is not quite as robotic as some people claim, when your that tall and have such long arms and legs it's hard to look fluid and gracefull because your body has a much bigger range of motion to move through to do anything.
Vitali will take some beating in todays Heavyweight scene.
Danny Williams gave it a good go, but it wasn't to be. I still give him a shot at beating Brewster but style wise I would not put him in with Byrd or Ruiz.
He can still figure in big money domestc matches against Skelton and Harrison even Hide.

Williams is no bum, he came to win for one thing, but just wasn't good enough.

Williams couldnt slip anything at that weight other than slipping down a few extra value meals.
I hope Williams looks back at the tape and thinks he is not good at all at that weight, he needs to get himself down to 250lbs or less and with hard work he can do it - there was plenty of excess weight around his middle. No doubt Williams is always in good shape as McDonnell works him hard but they need to make a big effort to shed some bulk. His footwork carrying around that weight is attrocious. Even though he's a heavyweight I think they could still do with a nutritionist and keeping an eye on his size. Seemingly while they are putting the hours in at the gym and getting his fitness to peak condition McDonnell is letting him eat whatever he wants hence the weight.
If he came in that heavy against Skelton I think he'd get another hammering.

Well Vitali looked like a very worthy heir to the throne last night - did he actualy miss a punch in there?
2 minutes in and Danny must've felt he was in a waking nightmare - he just couldn't put a foot right.
What a terrible beat down, and while I was glad he made it out of the first, like everyone else I was wishing it over after 2 more rounds.
Too much heart - and what the hell was going on his corner?? Absolute chaos. Must have been his idea to bring in that idiot McPherson, because no way would Jim Mac have been pleased about that. Both shouting in his ear at the same time? Dear oh dear....amateur night in Dixie.
McPherson's "advice" seemed to be along the lines of: "Don't quit on me Danny!! Your kids are watching!!"
Errrr, thanks, but how exactly is that going to help me win this fight?
If he knew anything about Williams, he'd have know there's no quit in him.
Shambles.
Poor guy will wake up this morning and think the world has crashed down around his ears - but someone should point out Golota - a heavyweight who's come back from even worse, and still finds himself in the world picture.

Maybe they know something we don't but the Williams corner did seem to panic, it certainly did not look professional.
Prehaps they thought that after the first round knockdown Williams would mentaly crumble and forget his gameplan. But telling Williams not to quit, is in my opinion silly, as you rightly say there is no quit in Williams.
I would have thought some calm tactical advice and encouragment would have done more good. Although I feel the outcome would have been simular.

UNLUCKY TO DANNY, BUT YOU ALL HAVE TO AGREE HE HAS DONE BRITAIN PROUD... HEART AND THE EVERYTHING WAS EXCELLENT!
Vitaliy was quoted "I could not belive how hard Danny hit... He is an Ironchin"

It was also one of those fights when the statisics don't lie.
The punch stat numbers saw Klitschko land 296 of 519 punches (47 percent). Meanwhile, Williams landed 44 of 193 punches (23 percent).
But they don't show how much heart and bravery Danny showed.

What is it with this country where non of us seem to cair that willimas wasn't fit to be in the same ring as klischko. we keep emphasising his bravery but that counts for nothing if you are not good enough to be in the ring with him. Sorry but that was clear befor the fight and it is even more clear now, yes Klitschko was good but danny hadn't proved he desreved the shot. Had he been in against Brewster even this would be a legitimate match up but all he has fough was one guy who isn't even ranked any more.

Yes, where did they drag McPherson from. It was an utter shambles. Reminded me of when Tyson had Jay Bright in his corner for Douglas. He hadn't a clue what he was on about and when Danny asked him for water, it took the clown about 20 seconds to get some.

What I found really strange (well amusing if it did not involve a serious boxing match where men can be hurt) isthe Boxing News 'expert's poll'in the preview.
7 of the polled individuals (including Chris Sanigar, Eugene Maloney and Derek Williams - all promoters!) has williams winning, only 4 had Klitschko winning!!!!
Talk about being blinded by patriotism...
Wanting something to happen won't make it happpen.

Sad to see him get such a pasting. Did well to make it to the eighth.
Accurate boxing from Klitschko against a completly over matched Williams.
