Danny Williams is delusional

Williams insists his career high, record equalling weight of 270lbs (19stone 4lbs) did not slow him down and make it easier for the champion to hit him with powershots.

He said: "I was 265lbs for the Tyson fight and that's just a couple of meals for a heavyweight. In fact, without the extra weight to help absorb the shots I may not have got up in time from the first knockdown in round one. But I'll be back, after a rest and few months enjoying my family, I'll be back."
Doesnt think he was too heavy at 270? That really is a shame.

This does not surprise me at all, Danny Williams has always said this when he has weighed in heavy for other fights.

I thought he done us Brits proud, it was also a great preformance by Vitali

I wouldn't say he 'did us proud' because lets face it, he just took an absolute pasting without offering anything effective back at any stage. He 'did us proud' against Tyson but sadly his time on the world stage has come to an end.

Not many blokes would have got up after the third Ko and all the punishment he took he has got some big balls.

danny was totally ougunned outclassed and beaten.

but it was no disgrace i was proud of him showing that much heart , i was actually shouting for him to stay down after the 3rd knockdown iut was painful to watch.

Best ive seen vitali he excuted his gamplan to a tee and looked a class apart.

everybody could see what i always said: Williams was overhyped. his level is domestic. he will never be able to win the european title. it needs more than a good chin.

no one likesa glaoter bubi and i hasten yto remind you he went as long as Saunders if posed much fewer problems. I give him a shot at someone like brewster to be honest.

Brewster is certainly not a matchup which is beyond him, he will always be a bit easy to hit, certainly at that weight, but he wouldn't be outgunned by Brewster and he won't be facing a giant.

I agree.

Turning to Vitali, the thing with fighting him is getting close enough to land shots, without taking many yourself.

You have to be lightning fast. Those guys that are fast enough are usually so small that they either cant hurt Vitali or get ko'd the first time they catch a shot (See Herbie Hide).

I think Vitali could reign for a few years yet.

You certainly cannot just stand right in front of him and blast away.

On the rare occasions when Danny closed the gap quickly, did anyone else know how disorganised Vitali looked? He definetly doesn't like being crowded.

The problem was, Danny never changed the angle of attack, and maybe he just couldn't at that weight.

There was a point, I think it was the third round, where I had Danny winning the round, he put Vitali under pressure, then just walked onto a left hook, the lack of head movement was suicidal against an opponent with so many physical advantages.

i had the feeling that Vitali didn´t take him serious anymore after the first round. Vitali was boxing without defense then. his pace wasn´t very high. IMO he didn´t want to have a soon KO for the audience. normally he would have KOéd him in the 2nd round.

No head movement, no attempt to bob his way in, no willing to gamble on big right hands over the top…. All in all, no ideas. It was clear that the shock of being hit that hard in the first round took every bit of confidence out of Danny…. Even at 19+ stone he was still being cuffed around the ring like a rag doll…. I was every bit as gutted as I feared I would be… Hats off for a display of courage well beyond the call of duty, but it was painful to watch a man so seemingly helpless..

I could understand his corner screaming at him the way they did.. It should’ve been just the one voice, but the “drill sergeant” approach had been a huge part of the camps preparations. It was this “at war” mentality they were trying to fire up inside Dannys mind between rounds, although after the first 3 minutes it already seemed like a lost cause….

Danny never was world class, never will be world class. Parts of Saturdays fight (especially the first round) were embarrassing.

The lack of skill and finesse on both of their parts made me cringe, Klitschko is awful to watch and makes anyone he fights look awful too.

Danny Williams main strenght was his supposed fluidty for a big man, once he chose to forgoe that option he was fucked.

He was brave I'll give him that much but worefully outclassed. Any of the other 'champions' would thrash him too.

It was like the Tsyon/Lewis fight to be honset. I really could not understand why he was so heavy he was just too slow and a sitting duck for shipping shots after the first knockdown.
It was a brave performence but not much else. It just goes to show how differicult it is when one of our guys steps up to face the top fighter in a divison and how the class gap can sometimes be too large. If or when Hatton fights Tsyzu he will be in a similar situration with an probably even harder task. I don't think there is any shame when you step up and come up short.
