A while back I posted a thread asking if anyone remembered Joe Frazier saying he wanted to get in the ring with Tyson in an interview that took place in the ring after the Tyson-Marvis Frazier fight. No one remembered it. I looked up the fight's coverage in the New York Times and the article quotes Joe saying that he wants to test Tyson himself to see just how hard he hits.

I know Smokin' Joe wanted Iron Mike very bad in 1986, but, this ain't the year 1971, Joe.

All I'll say is he's lucky Mike didn't answer the challenge. By 1986 he would've gotten it as bad as his Son did.

It would've been worse only because he likely would've stood up to more punishment, but he'd have likely gotten taken out in 1 just the same.

Never mind. At least old Joe would never have suffered the supreme indignity of losing to Danny Williams or Kevin McBride.

Joe Frazier had his last pro fight only 4 1/2 years earlier when Marvis fought Tyson, not that long before really.

I remmbeer that.when Joe Frazier was in Mike Tyson's dressing room supervising the putting on of his gloves
before Tyson fought Marvis Frazier.
Joe Frazier was acting like he almost wanted to take a swing at Tyson then and there.
There was a video clip of it if I remember right.

Smokin' Joe was a fighter that wasn't scared of no one. That's one of his great traits. He had that warrior mentality and urge for a battle just like men love sex. He was something.

I always wonder how/why Frazier never fought Liston in the late sixties.

No clue. I wouldn't be surprised if Yank kept Joe away from Sonny.

Well, Smokin' Joe would have welcomed the challenge with gusto. Maybe his management team had other plans. But, as for Joe, all things right for a battle.
