Has Hughie done too much hard sparring?

I sometimes watch him and think he has a sparring partner's mentality. Wonder how much hard sparring he's done from being young against the guys they brought in for Tyson and the big man himself? He's really good but just never seems to commit, almost like he's become conditioned to fight to survive.

Hughie is just unable to get the win against world class fighters...yet. At 24 he's still got time to come good at this level. Then again, he may never cut the mustard, but shouldn't be written off yet.

Hughie Fury just got a dull style under Peter Fury, Tyson was dull too under the same trainer has improved under Ben Davidson. Maybe Hughie should change trainers but I think he lacks the skills to get wins outside the domestic scene whoever trains him.

Hughie has done not enough in the ring, that's it. Just as always, when he meets a top guy.

The problem is Hughie and his team believe he is world class and that simply isn't the case yet and they don't appear to want to get involved in good domestic fights or make a name for himself fighting for the EBU title.

That he can move around with and not get battered off the top men both in sparring and fights is what, I think, leads his father to claim he is a world class operator. You can somehow see the logic in that but if he is not prepared to seek and destroy he'll only ever be a marking time fight for men waiting for their next big match.

He just doesn't have it. No trainer can bring out something that isn't there. He has a journeyman's set of skills.

I fear you are correct. Just wish he'd bite down on his gummie and have a do though. I think he'd surprise himself.

I strongly disagree agree with this but that's for another thread,

He's just not that good.
Can he not fight people between the. Levels he has been fighting.
He goes from wasters to fringe world level but skips in between.
He ducked Joe Joyce which is a level in between and a fight he could win. He just needs 2-3 fights at that level.

Facts are , he needs another trainer , simple has that , someone who's gonna kick him up the ass , not blow smoke up his ass , Look at it , he's big , got a good chin , moves well , but fights behind a jab to survive , he never thinks about dropping the ball and having a go , last night , wheat did he do , what he always does , run , and hide behind a jab and a right hand , , where was his uppercut , where was the going forward , , where was the leaning over his opponent to use his weight and size , he done what he always does , stink the place out , fook knows why ANY promoter uses him to be honset

Hughie is becoming an experienced and seasoned operator at top level where he has always performed with credit. His biggest problem is lack of power which may always be an issue . He should step down now and fight for the European title but he will come again and in two or three years will be an even more accomplished fighter and a greater threat than he is now.

He'll have packed it in.

not skilled enough.
not big enough.
no power.
no right hand .
no defence .
ulitmately he isnt going to make it at top level , exposed by povetkin who is near the end and carried little threat.
Making a living off the fury name .

How many opponents has he faced where Peter hasn’t paid their purse?
And how many times has he lost?
Yep, same number.

Exactly.
He may or may not develop power as he gets older. If he does, with the experience he's built up at a young age, he could be a force.

This reeks of optimism to me. What seems clear based on a number of showings now is that Hughie lacks the mentality to get to the top. The shortfall is not one of physical gifts, it’s one of the mind.

Actually didn't mean to come across as overly optimistic.
The jury is well and truly out on whether he can crack the top of the division.
But he's still a young guy who has racked up a lot of good experience, albeit losing the bigger fights when it matters.
Good chin as well.
If, and it's a big if, he develops the power as he matures there's no doubt he'd be a big threat

Sorry, but I have to disagree completely. He’ll never be a serious threat as he has shown time and time again that at this level he is not willing to actually try to win. He is very clearly more content to last the distance and not take the type of risks required to either control fights or turn them around. The most he is ever going to be irrespective of how he develops physically is a high level gatekeeper IMO, as he is already in that embedded mindset.

Totally agree but I think that's due to him having no confidence in his power.

I hear you mate, I just don’t think that’s the root cause. He could still be more aggressive and dictate with his jab etc but he just clearly doesn’t want to engage... and once that mindset is formed it’s incredibly difficult to change.

Hughie is 25, he's not some pre pubescent. How much more do people expect him to physically develop? I have seen no improvement from him--it's the exact same thing each time out vs guys who are handy. He comes out with that funny looking herky jerk, throws a bunch of air jabs, telegraphs a few looping rights here and there, and even though he doesn't get hit with many big shots he loses because he doesnt do enough. People keep saying we'll he's only a baby and will improve, but so far he hasn't changed anything up.
Parker, Pulev, and Povetkin (maybe a 'P' curse?) all went for it far more, and at least in the case of the last two, even if they missed a lot, by virtue of attacking more aggressively they landed more and scored better.
Also, Hughie tired late vs Pulev and Povetkin and in both cases the guys near 40 ended stronger. Hughie's engine should be near it's top shape at 25
