Canelo, the First Mexican to Vacate a World Title?

Loeffler told Boxing Scene, "We can't be worried about it. We've chased Canelo in the past and we've gotten him twice. A lot of people forgot that he vacated a title, the first world champion from Mexico to vacate a world title. We've gotten him twice. We couldn't get him now in September but Gennadiy is focused on moving on and starting his second championship run."

I don't know if this is accurate, or what he meant. He may have meant it as it is.. First Mexican to vacate a world title.. or he may heave meant vacate to avoid mandatory challenger.

Can anyone think og any world champions from Mexico that vacated a world title and why? Whether it was just in general, moved up in weight, or to avoid a mandatory fight.

It took seconds to find Juan Francisco Estrada’s name.

If I could be ârśéd, I could probably find a dozen other names. :brick:

Yeah. Several other examples of Mexicans vacating a title for one reason or another popped into my mind almost immediately upon reading that thread title.

Oscar Valdez vacated his world title and is moving up a weight division rather than face mandatory challenger Shakur Stevenson. :TU:

Tom Loeffler speaks absolutely böllöcks! He’s more interested in trash-talking and generating hype rather than speak the honest truth.

Difference is, Canelo vacated and remained a MW. or rather used te excuse to recapture the 154 belt.

You’re moving the goalposts.

What did Tom Loeffler originally claim?

Also, has Canelo actually "vacated" any middleweight title? The answer might seem simple, but it definitely isn't.

Vacating due to a move to a different weight class is natural. Vacating and staying at the same weight looks bad unless a sanctioning authority is unreasonable.

And how does your comment relate to Canelo?
