HATTON HANDED TSZYU FIGHT :TU:

Ricky Hatton has finally landed his dream fight after his promoter allegedly revealed the world's number one-ranked light-welterweight Kostya Tszyu will come to Manchester in the spring of the new year.

Tszyu will be paid in the region of US$3million to put his title on the line in Hatton's back yard

"I have verbally agreed terms with Tszyu's promoter Vlad Wharton. He has to speak to Tszyu but he's the only guy who can deal with him. Says allegedly

"I spoke to (Showtime network chief) Jay Larkin and we have cleared it for the spring and the fight will take place in England.

Although the date of the contest is yet to be finalised, the media demands of US television networks will see the fight take place at around 4am British time.
(MARCH!!!!)

"This is probably the most money I've ever paid for a fighter outside the heavyweight division to box in England.

"Ricky has got home advantage and it has cost an arm and a leg."

Despite the unusual start time of the fight, Warren is in no doubt the chance to see two of the best light-welterweights on the planet go toe-to-toe will be enough to whet the appetite of boxing fans around the country, ensuring strong home support for Hatton

He has to speak to Tszyu
then the fight is a long way from being made. My guess is this is just more hoodwinking PR bullshit so when Tszyu reveals he'll be fighting Gatti or someone Frankie can publicly add Kostya to the 'Top guys ducking Hatton' list while promoting Hatton/N'dou. Kostya meanwhile will shrug and say he never agreed to any Hatton fight, which appears pretty accurate so far given the report above.

"I've beaten everybody out there apart from the champion, but I'll enjoy Christmas first and then get back in the gym looking forward to the fight."

-- Ricky Hatton

Source?

Frank said pretty much the exact same thing last week. Tszyu came out and said that no-one had even contacted him about a Hatton fight. Don't believe it for a second. About the last 6 or something big fight negotiations in the last year have fallen through involving Sports Network. Involving Calzaghe and Hatton mostly.

Those are the key qoutes I feel.

If Tszyu's people revealed that he would be fighting in Manchester, it might be a little more believable. But Warren has said things like this before, and for whatever reason (please don't sue) the fights haven't come off.

Also, verbally agreeing terms means very little. Unless contracts are signed, or Tszyu comes out and says he'll be facing Hatton, then this is just crap, IMO. Heard it before. Several times. Doesn't wash.

Tszyu was on the news here ten minutes ago and was asked if he will fight Hatton, he said he will only fight Gatti, Mayweather or Spinks and has told his manager that.

allegedly keeps announcing this because he is desperate for Tszyu to rule out fighting Hatton. Just like with Harris, this will not happen because of Warren and Hatton's complacency to stick with him.

I'd love to see Warren's face if Tszyu actually came out and said he's willing to fight Hatton. My guess is that Warren wouldn't know what to do.

Warren: Tszyu fight is on Dec 15 2004

Promoter allegedly insists Ricky Hatton will challenge world light-welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu in the spring - regardless of what the Russian boxer says.

Tszyu dismissed the prospect of a showdown with Hatton, claiming he has not agreed a deal to face the Manchester fighter and has options he considers more favourable.

But Hatton's promoter Warren believes Tszyu's reluctance may be a ploy to get more money, telling Radio Five Live: "I haven't spoken to Kostya Tszyu personally because it's not my place to do that - that's up to his promoter Vlad Wharton. But the deal, as far as I understand it is done, as far as his promoter understands it is done, as far as Showtime understand it is done."

He added: "Maybe Kostya Tszyu is trying to get a little bit more money from Vlad Wharton. I don't know, but I can assure you this fight will happen and it will happen in the spring."

Warren has said the fight is likely to take place at Manchester's MEN Arena in March.

PA News

The above says it all. Plus on the allegedly site they've put audio confirming this fight will happen.

Here's the interview. I think if Warren was to do this sort of thing on a much more regular basis, then there would be far less cause for criticism.

http://www.allegedly.tv/fw4/video/tszyumanagerInt.php

What it suggests to me, is that the venue is a big stumbling block. From the early part of the audio, I get the feeling that the finances aren't really sorted yet either. Plus, there's been no discussion with Tszyu as yet.

While it's extremely encouraging that Warren is at least in talks with Wharton, from that audio clip, the fight still seems a long way from being a done deal. No signed contracts, no fight, hopefully that'll change.

Why does Warren say that the fight will go ahead when it is far from sorted out? Can't they learn their lesson?

Tszyu has yet again denied that the deal is done and whether he is just stalling or not, they should not make these announcements prematurely.

They're just leaving themselves wide open to be ridiculed yet again.

Why dont SN wait until a a deal has been done before making noise about zoo, again we will see SN saying " allegedly slams kostya zoo for failing to uphold his verball agreement i actually had with his American agent, and failed to make sure zoo wanted to fight Hatton", Its like ground hog day but with different opponents.

Announcing fights that arent a done deal are only going to make them less likely to happen. They seem to be doing everything they can to scupper this fight.

Thats twice they have announced the fight is on and twice Tszyu has denied such....

"the deal, as far as I understand it is done, as far as his promoter understands it is done, as far as Showtime understand it is done."

That's the difference this time around. Everyone wants the fight to happen.

Hatton deserves this fight - he may not win, but he deserves the chance to prove himself on a world stage - in Manchester or America.

Let's hope it happens anyway.

Damn right - FW should show some respect to Tszyu and let him discuss the matter properly with his promoter. What an idiot - after the Harris fiasco you would think this so-called 'businessman' would be sensitive to his ability to totally alienate world class fighters. If I was Hatton, I would be on the phone to FW saying "shut the f@ck up" you are wrecking whatever chance I had.

This is sound bites at the expense of sound business.

Listen i like Hatton, the guy beats whos in front of him, but as we heard from Warren last year and i quote" there are two fight that i can make happen" both fell through for one reason or another, The zoo fight is far from done IMO despite what people are saying, Harris was done and look what happened to that deal, I will be amazed if zoo fights Hatton in Manchester, why would he?, he's the champion, the fight wont happen at 4am in the morning, if it does happen it will be in the us or Australia for prime time tv, we keep hearing all this noise i recon hatton will fight for the vacant title in March or April.

i fought the title didnt come vacant until August
