Pros fighting in amateurs

Personally, I don't understand what they think the problem is. The guy is clearly bigger and better than his opponent regardless of having a few pro fights on his record. He is just 25, and there are more experienced amateurs than him. He followed rules of amateur boxing and cleanly stopped his opponent. Most likely does the same to cab drivers he fought in pro. What is a big difference.

Jalolov's only had 6 pro fights and against nobody of note. LOL that him having such marginal pro experience makes a difference, he was simply a bigger better fighter. The edge he'd have on experience would come from his additional amateur bouts, not his pro ones.

There’s no point having pros and amateurs if you let pros fight in amateur tournaments.

And that American guy had made the quarterfinals of the World Championships and won several tournaments, he was hardly some poor little newb. Last year he also beat the guy that won bronze this year at the Worlds, as well as the vastly experienced Cuban Jose Laurdet. He has been stopping guys left and right in USA national tournaments too.

Yeah if countries are just gonna have Pros fight on their behalf so they as a country can win an Amateur tournament it kinda gums up the whole thing.

Jalolov is far more an amateur than pro. 6 pro fights vs nobodies vs hundreds of am fights and at the top levels
Do the NBA guys still get to play in the amateur basketball tournamennts? I know they kicked the pro hockey players out of the Olympics, or at least the NHL guys.

Those are sports with different rules. Pro boxers can fight in barecknucle boxing, BKB, etc. Why not in amateurs?

Far more worrying is Frazer Clarke beating the Russian in his home tournemant, then the Russians appeal the decision, AIBA overrule and put the Russian in to the semi final...oh and to cap it off, no chance of a counter appeal either!
Disgusting behaviour and absolutely corrupt.

agree. its not right surely.
would be the same mess if they allowed pac/klit etc. to fight in the olympics... its supposed to be a stepping stone to the pros, defeats the whole point of it.

So it´s ok for a 15 year-old Canelo to fight older professionals but it´s not ok for a 20-year Torrez with great international experience to fight another good boxer in a 3 round fight?
Jalolov hardly got past the Kazakh Kunkabayev at the Asian Championships some months ago (4-1 decision). Nobody complained then…
Another yong american, Keyshawn Davis, beat another uzbek pro in Elnur Abduraimov earlier this week. Sanjar Tursunov lost to Indian Sanjeet and other pros have lost at these World Championships as well.
If you´re entering a World Championships you know you can face a 300+ bouts Cuban or a 5 pro bouts Uzbek or whatever. If you ´re not ready then don´t take part.

Very good post. If you are not ready to face world elite, you should stay home and spar in the gym. Sulaiman post is pathetic. This is WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP omg.

Because they‘re pros that’s why. The whole idea is daft. Blur the boundary now and where‘s it going to end. What’s the point in having pros in amateur tournaments. I just don’t get it.

I mean, Torrez could turn pro next month, and fight a total can. Is it all good then if he and Jalo rematched in the ams? No mismatch?

First of all, Jalolov is from Uzbekistan, not Russia.
I don't get what the problem is, just like most of us, i think. He knocked out a weaker, less skilled opponent. Sometimes in happens, in both amateurs and pros (much more often in pros though, so i guess that is why Sulaiman was shocked, because such a sight is rare in amateurs compared to pros).

It’s not just about this fight. It’s the principle of pros in am tournaments. Why? It’s not an am tournament if there are pros. Even if the ams batter them, it still undermines the am code. No to this situation.

Professionals entering into amateur tournaments (in any sport) should be pretty embarrassed with themselves.
