Would Canelo stay at LH if he beats Kovalev

LH is arguably the seconde strongest division in boxing. To me Canelo would be crazy if he thinks he can hang in there with tall punchers in their prime like gvozdyk.

is he more likly to stay at lh, sm or mw

I think we all know it’s not a serious assault on the Lightheavy division, more of a smash and grab along the lines of Leonard v Lalonde

X2
The lightheavy division is one of the best divisions out there now.
Canelo would be foolish to stay there

Or facing Rocky (and not Smith) for his "championship" belt :doh:

I believe he went on record recently saying he would go back down to middleweight.

Canelo is making Mayweather look like an absolute GOAT. He outright stole some of Mayweathers moves after he got schooled. I know Floyd inspires a lot of hate in people but he absolutely schooled Canelo then and I think it's probably fair to say that version of Floyd would school Canelo again today. It makes you wonder what Floyd could have achieved if he actually retained the ambition he had earlier in his career. He would have went up more weight classes and challenged himself against the best at 160/168/175. It's easy to say he would have lost those fights but would Canelo lose to Hopkins or Calzaghe? I'm not sure he would and even if he would, that doesn't mean Floyd would have.

Floyd was lucky on so many levels.
@160 Hopkins/Pavlik/GGG
@154 Trinidad/Wright/Lara
@147 Mosley/Spence/De la Hoya
@140 Pacquiao/Crawford/Tszyu

Put him in the ring against those kind of people in their prime. No old Mosley, young green Canelo. Floyd thought Castillo or Maidana was tough. Put him in aring with a 6'2 Pavlik or somebody as athletic and explosive as him like Lara.

He needs to go get a real 168 belt. The fact that people just let the wba reg belt slide as a real championship for Canelo is crazy.

Floys schooled drained young Canelo. He would be beaten by prime top MWs, SMWs, LHWs.

No, I think this is a gimmick fight. He most definitely will not try to fight his way through the 175 lb meat grinder. If he tried, one of the light heavies would stop him. He already looks like a bobble head to Kovalev.

If he really does beat up and stop Kov you surely have to rate his chances of beating the likes of Beterbiev and most the top 10

Let him at least beat Kovalev first. That's a one of his hardest tasks ever. And actually I don't see him succeeding here.

I love all this weight drained stuff he made 152 for the fight and was still at 154 years later after coming from welterweight a few years before

He wasn't lucky. He was very smart and he was calculating very well when to make a move and against who. He was a master of timing. Every small detail had to be in his favor.

exactly. canelo koing kovalev would be crazy, cause i see kovalev as the clear winner, look at the reach difference.

but i also wounder how a bulked up super strong version of canelo at LH looks like.

LH division is insane, bertebiev has like a 95 % ko ratio, gvozdyk is a monster. bivol is p4p top 10 material. lh is crazy. sometimes boxer bulk up and become super strong, like holyfield or haye. I also think since GGG is naturaly very big and strong he would have been a problem at sm maybe even lh had he bulked up. i understand that at mw was the money and easier wins.

it benefited him and disbenefited fans. because fans wanted prime against prime and not past prime vs past prime or simply not fighting dangerous opponents.

..Canelo's performance against GGG doesn't warrant categorical claims that he'll be a major force provided he stays at LH.. :o ...However, he's a tough cookie and as long as he's in his prime and is relatively punch resistant, boxing in protected locations like Las Vegas will inevitably give him an edge on scorecards in close bouts..

I don't think so. There's gotta be a 3rd GGG fight. It'd bring in more money and more ratings than any other fight Canelo could take at 175
