To be honest just sat reading and bored so thought i would start a thread ,, Not on telling anyone how to do or not do things , but try and pick brains for my own and others benefits regards , training , coaching lads , so i'll start off with a couple of little observations i have made over the years

1----- Start with ,, i have notice over the years some boys just don't grasp some things . it could be throwing a left hook , a jab , anything , so one little tricjk i learnt to help , was take little johnny aside , show him , very quick and very sharp , then explain it to him , after that , when i'm satisfied he's got it right , bring over another kid , and tell little Johnny , show him how to do it , and tomoro show him again , , I find that little Johnny seems to remember then a lot more .

2 ---- When do you decide a fella is ready for his first fight ,,, Now i trained a lad , and he was doing very well , he was holding his own sparring with experienced lads who had fought before , looking good holding his own , but he had never fought , yet i did'nt put him in , others started to ask how come , my answer was , he's not ready , anyway his dad said to me how come he's not going in , my answer he's not ready , But , But But HE HOLDS HIS OWN , HE CAME BACK WITH , I JUST SAID , HOLDS HIS OWN but does'nt win a spar , and these guys are not allowed to go hell for leather on him , but there experienced he'll fight a novice , i said look on the night he'll go to peices he will freeze , he's not ready , he argued , i just said , well i know other trainers have pissed in your ear cos he spars there lads and holsd s his own , take him to train with them , they will probably put him in ,,, HE DID ,,,, THEY DID and he fought , , he went to peices he froze , got stopped , and gave it away , , his dad came and seen me and said can he come back , i said only if you don't come near the gym . , He asked how did you know , everyone else said he was brilliant , i said , simple , at the moment he's a gym boxer , he's comfortable in his own gym , but when i took him to another gym he was a bag of nerves and he was only going to spar ,,, Plus i said ever play football has a kid , he said yeh , i said was you disapointed when the coach picked the team and you were not in it , he said yeh ,,, I said YOUR BOY WAS'NT HE LOOKED GLAD HE DID'NT AKE THE TEAM .

Any way just a post to pass the time , and hopefully pick up some tips from others who can contribute :TU:

So glad I don’t coach kids

Although it is nice to train people from ‘never had gloves on’ upwards.

I like your first point too. I think it’s important to emphasise that doing it slowly and correctly is better than doing it quick and wrong, because we can always get faster
