Sources: Deal in place for Errol Spence Jr. to defend unified welterweight championship vs. Danny Garcia, pegged for Jan. 25, in a PBC on FOX PPV. Garcia confronted Spence during champ’s in-ring interview with @HeidiAndrol after victory over Shawn Porter last night #SpencePorter
— Mike Coppinger (@MikeCoppinger) September 29, 2019
Garcia (35-2, 21 KOs) already called Spence out inside the ring last Saturday after Errol had defeated Porter (30-3-1, 17 KOs) by a 12 round split decision at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Fox Sports TV reporter Heidi Androl stated that she was told that Danny Garcia will be Spence’s next opponent, and this comes from up high.
Danny Garcia: I believe I can beat Spence
“He’s never faced a puncher that can hit as hard as me, and he likes to stay there. That’s why I like this fight so much. That’s why I went inside the ring. I wasn’t going to go in there for no reason. I want this fight because I believe I can win this fight. It’s in the talks. It definitely can happen next.

So you got Thurman vs. Garcia and Thurman vs. Porter on free to air in US.. Both fights combined peaked nearly 10m viewers.
PBC were good to the US fans like this..
Now all of a sudden, Errol is in town and now he's a PPV fighter..
Let's see how Spence/Porter fairs on PPV first..

Spence by wide decision. Garcia is too flat footed.

That was quick.
Then who is Manny fighting then? Feels more logical or at something I read that Spence didn't mind fight Crawford next. Then read some other newsclip about he not seeing Crawford at all... pisses me off.
Garcia is like the Silver Champion or mandatory or what you call it for the WBC, right. So in that way it makes sense for Garcia get a shot. Well, I guess Al Haymon looks after his guys.
Then who will Manny fight next?

Still Spence in the spring or summer.

The outcome of this fight might be another split or a very close unanimous decision victory for Errol Spence Jr.
I feel that “The Truth” might not be head-and-shoulders above the rest of the welterweight division.
For sure, he’s an excellent fighter, perhaps even the best 147lb-er on the planet, but maybe he isn’t quite as good as all the praise and hype that has been lavished on him during recent years.
I feel that the top-six welterweights (Spence Jr., Crawford, Pacquiao, Thurman, Porter & Garcia) are all capable of beating each other, since the 147lbs division is highly-competitive. There are no easy fights between those guys.

The Brook and Porter fights were competitive. He's very very good but not head and shoulders good, true.

So many good fights... Crawford is still my fav to smack this other guys around. But no easy work five nights in a raw might boost him with taking out the PBC-stable. Something that would be bad for business.
But really? Mikey Garcia rumored to next? Ok. Makes sense in that he is a popular fighter among other things. But fighting again at 147? I would test the waters but the div is pretty deep either way.

If beating the likes of Spence Jr., Pacquiao, Thurman, Porter & Garcia were high on Terence Crawford’s list of priorities, he wouldn’t have recently extended his contract with Bob Arum’s Top Rank.

I agree.. Its like when we had Duran, Hagler, Hearns and Leonard from the 80's. Good thing is they all fought each other at least once... But all beat each other.
Spence is probably the best, he will knock guys over, but against the top WW's, like most elite boxers do, end up winning decisions...

I think Crawford is the best fighter in the world, his best bet proving it is going to probably be Ramirez and prograis coming up.

Agree.
I'm a bite hyped over the 147. but bloody politics and boxers are what they are.

Are you suggesting that Terence Crawford’s best chance to prove he’s the top-dog in the welterweight division is to beat two blown-up super-lightweights at 147lbs?

Crawford really is out in the cold at the moment, isn't he?
Surely Bob has to do something with him
And I mean something decent. Like a name opponent.

I’m sure Bob will find “somebody” half-decent for Crawford, but he won’t bother to make a concerted effort to match him up with any of the top-five PBC guys at 147lbs.

Spence will be better at higher weights. You can't keep cutting 25+ lbs for every fight. It's beginning to show, sapping his strength. He must be at about 3-5% bodyfat.
From the stories about what a monster puncher he is when sparring, is probably weighing at least 160.

When you make a much higher offer to Khan than Danny Garcia, what does that tell you? Re-signed with Arum? Maybe Bud isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.
He should DEMAND Arum get him a big fight next. Why not Thurman? Or Ugas?

He offered Garcia $3m and upside of PPV.

Is anyone actually excited by the prospect of this fight? Spence follows up his biggest career win by ... fighting a guy who lost to the guy he just beat, and has done dick-all since?
God being a boxing fan sucks.

Danny Garcia is a very credible boxer and always in shape I see nothing wrong with the match up.
Quite within the realms of possibility that Danny Garcia can win this fight.
No question it's a legitimate bout against a high profile fighter at 147, passes easily I like it

Bud is getting paid. Ugas is a good fighter, but he'd get no credit for that.

He's sharp enough to get 3.6 mil for Horn vs 2 mil for Porter on a PPV.
