Porter a sub par champ or great journeyman

I admire porters effort and intensify but he seems like a better version of Emmanuel Augustus. Not even sure if I would put him above Mikey Ward in due to his lack of punching power and ability to come up just short in big fight

To call him either is kind of an insult. He's proven he's among the best at the weight. Jouneymen and sub par champs don't stay at top 5 in the world on a consistant basis.

He is a pretty high level fighter. Good world class but not at that elite P4P level.

   ... Are you serious, below Mickey Ward? Porter would beat Mickey Ward any day of the week and twice on Sunday. He's in one of the most stacked divisions in boxing with Spence, Crawford and Pacquiao current holding the titles.

He also won loads as an amateur too btw (oddly enough beating Usyk once). He's ugly but effective.

Both English and Russian language wikipedia pages mention him losing to Korobov in 2006, but nothing about Porter.

It's well documented and there are a couple videos of Porter talking about it.

23-20 for Porter in 2006, during a US-Ukraine duel held in the US. If it makes you feel better, look at the location and call it an awful robbery.

I don’t know. Anyone who can throw and land that many punches without hurting anyone is the definition of a volume puncher.

Entirely an insult. Not only to Porter but to this forum and anyone subjected to reading that crap.

Yeah, in an era when guys that can’t seem to crack an egg call themselves “one time” people easily forget what serous welterweights were all about not long ago. Any guy who lands here hundreds of clean shots with no effect is more reminiscent of a vinny pazienza and less Felix Trinidad

Crawford would school Tito. Thurman wouldn't though, that nickname is so off.

Porter has earned his dues.
He has taken on tough fights, won some, lost some. And he is anything but protected.
Personally I hate his style. But I do admire his courage.
He has also gradually proved his own particular style. The Shawn Porter we saw on the weekend was better than say, 2 years ago.
Unfortunately for him, opponents only have to study his previous fights to know what he brings. Ugas almost had the measure of him, and Spence- when he wasn't getting dragged into Porter's world, did as well.
The Thurman who fought Pac, would lose to 2019 Porter.
He is top #4 in a quality division and ain't no easy night for anyone.
Where he goes from here, I don't know.

Someone needs to brush up on their Boxing terminology.

He's not even close to a journeyman.

If you wanna call him a Sub-Par Champ I guess that's fair as he's never been considered THE man in his division, but he's definitely a Top 5 guy. Augustus or Ward never were on their best day.

The big thing in common with Agustus is that Porter can land hundreds of punches, many or most of them clean, and it will have no effect on any top opponent. He has to overwhelm opponents with a fenzy combinations in order to be competitive. I really do admire that but I also realize that this is typically a sign of a less talented guy with a lot of heart and willingness to take your best shot to land 4 of his. I realize it’s unfair to say this but this is the reality. Porter will never be able to take his time and pick a few deadly shots here and there while maintaining defensive integrity. He will always fight every round like the final round. He doesn’t even break guys down despite the enormous volume of punches. I think the pazmanian devil is a fair comparison

Porter is a real deal champion. 147 is just very stacked division so he has 3 close losses.
