Boxer Wadi Camacho 'arrested on suspicion of terrorism' after dropping daughter at school

Camacho, who retired earlier this year, also claimed police raided his mum's house

Former boxing champion Wadi Camacho has claimed he was arrested on suspicion of being a terrorist.

The 34-year-old, who retired from the sport this year, claims police swooped after he dropped his daughter at school on Wednesday.

He went on to claim police then smashed down his mum's door in order to search the property.

Camacho, who said he lives both at his mum's and his sister's, added that he had his phone taken and had to post updates via a friend's Facebook page.

He wrote: "Yesterday morning I took my daughter to school then went to go to Canary Wharf took some video like I do off [sic] the O2 arena of the site that was a beautiful day 09:30am.

"Next thing I knew I was surrounded by police and security and got arrested for suspected as a terrorist!!

"I spent 12 hours in the police station up in London, they have confiscated my phone so I don’t have no numbers for anyone but I am okay but the investigation is still going ahead OMFG!!!"

Camacho, who won the Commonwealth cruiserweight title last year before retiring after successive defeats, also shared a video explaining the aftermath.

He said: "I've had phone calls from my sister to say the police have gone to my mum's house, smashed her door and put everything upside down.

"My mum's on holiday and I have to buy her a ticket for her to give me more grief because police have smashed her door.

"I'm bailed at my sister's address. This is bonkers, everyone knows I love a picture and a video but this is beyond a joke, this is crazy.

"I'm just so confused, it's something else. I've been a professional boxer for eight or nine years; I'm known to the police, I don't socialise with bad people, I have a good team around me.

"It's unbelievable. They arrested me yesterday for suspected terorism. I don't know what's next, I don't have no phone. I'm bailed until October 29; it's bonkers."

The world we live in I'm afraid. An inconvenience certainly, but if they manage to prevent one terrorist atrocity then it's worth it in the grand scheme of things.

This is what I thought - so a load of police just turned up out of nowhere for no reason?

Even if this is the case, better safe than sorry.

Dicks on social media telling him to sue the Police (ie the taxpayer) - if a terrorist did something the first thing they would say is where were the police!

It’s a tough job and very tough situation.

A similar thing happened to my brother years ago (1999-2000ish).
He was doing an art degree and decided to get some photos of the chemical plants at Runcorn. So, in the early hours of the morning, he parked up on the roadside and took a load of photos.
A few days later the police turned up on our parents door step asking to speak to him. Apparently he’d been seen on the traffic cctv cams taking photos of the works. Thankfully the situation was resolved quickly.
Bear in mind that this was pre 9/11 and the climate with respect to terrorism was much different.

I remember the story of the innocent brazilian guy who MI5 brutally shot and killed in broad daylight with about 10 bullets to the head and he had absolutely no connection to terrorism. The chap was going about his business and next thing he knew he had several bullets coming his way and had no option but to run for his life. They take terrorism seriously but you have to have some kind of legitimate process to go through. Camacho seems to have been dumped into a car and taken to the station to his own surprise. I wouldn't be surprised if he's an innocent guy and they got it wrong.

Based on what?

It’s easy for us to discuss this on a boxing forum after the event, but it’s a bit different for the people on the front line looking after the public’s safety who gave to make big decisions on the spot.

They shot a poor innocent guy mate. Camacho could have been shot and they'd come out with the same apology. There's no excuse for that

It wasn't MI5. It was armed met police.

One of them fell asleep on duty during surveillance lost track of the suspect and then mistook him on surveillance camera.

He didn't run, he was shot 7 times in the head on a packed tube with zero warning. It was a total balls up. An execution of an entirely innocent man on his way to his work.

I think so. But unless I’m mistaken, even our current ‘hostile environment’ hasn’t quite reached the level of summarily executing them in the streets.

I believe it's a Duchamp 370. Looks like a late 80's model

The chap was butchered in broad daylight. What surprised me was there were no arrests or charges. Surely someone should have been held to account.

Anyway it will be interesting to see what transpires with camacho. If they had any kind of proof I assume he'd be in a cell at the moment
