In my opinion, it looks more like Georges Carpentier. Are my eyes playing tricks on me or is the photograph wrong?

Interesting, but yeah, doesn't look like Tunney. You might be right about it being Carpentier

I actually scrolled the list without looking at the names just so I could name them. And when I was done I said, "Hey, wait, I didn't see Tunney here at all" Then when looking at the names I saw what you were talking about. No, that is Carpentier.

i thought it was a photograph of British HW Tommy Farr (?) the second I saw it quite frankly.
(although most likely it is Carpentier)
Whomever it was did not exactly "excude" an "American" quiality
( back in the days when a person could "spot" an American overseas 'just like that !"!
like Gene Tunney did..( as seen in the portrait photograph).

hadn't realized previously that Georges Carpentier was so "sinewy"
but surely he didn't get a form like that just eating Bon-Bons and doing Pilates.

That's definitely a photo of Gene Tunney. I remember seeing it often in boxing history books I read as a kid. No doubt about it: it's Tunney.

The top photo is Tunney, not the one below with the guy with his fists up, thats the photo he is referring to. That is Carpentier.

The top picture is Gene Tunney. The bottom picture is George's Carpentier. The article would not let me copy the picture they provided of Gene Tunney, so the best I could do is provide a link to the article. I'm actually surprised the article hasn't been fixed yet.

hey,do you think that maybe Gene Tunney may have
somehow inspired SUPERMAN ?
because he reminds me of "The Man of Steele" in that photograph.
( along with Douglas Fairbanks of course)
