Whats happened to it? Sent the Mrs out to get me a copy the other day and she bought one however its last months which I already have!!! Is the new one not in circulation?? I have looked in several WH Smith and they all still have last months on the shelf.

I've been wondering about this too. I checked the Pugilist Media website and that hasn't been updated for several months.

I hope it's not vanished already

Yes the magazine i never seen it at all in our newsagents, it wasnt even listed on there list of magazines!


If you have any old Magazines i will trade my wife in for them!
She will fetch and carry but you will get constant whinning
So you will wish you got them yourself

I had a look in WH Smith's in Portsmouth at the weekend and, as usual, I couldn't see it in there :(

If you're wondering what has happened to the magazine, then wonder no more. It looks like Uppercut is dead now, or at least in hibernation.

Despite the best efforts of myself and Mr McNeilly, and our other contributors, the people who handled the finance for the magazine were about as useful as a chocolate teapot and as detrimental to the success of the magazine as underpants made out of wasps.

I have heard no news to indicate that anyone out there is going to save the project, the people handling the death knell of the magazine have no good news to report so it looks like it's ...Veni Vidi, titsup.

We came, we saw, it went tits up.

A shame really. I didn't think the two issues I bought were that bad.

Would have been a lot better too had we not been working around a day job, ah well, nothing ventured, nothing gained. In this case, definetly nothing gained.

The failure of the magazine had absolutely NOTHING to do with the quality of the product. Editorial was fine and getting better.

To paraphrase Geoffrey Howe, we were being sent out to the crease by our captain...who had broken our bat in the dressing room.

No marketing done, no advertising sold...everything that was essential wasn't done - except the fornicating copy by us mugs who are owed substantial sums we'll never see.

Shame - it was a good mag.

i did ask about a month ago what was going on but nobody answered me; i put all my credit card details etc.. into the site, best check my statement then

I suspect the problem is that in a time of decreasing interest in boxing, there are not enough people to support two monthly mags

Nah seriously, gutted for you guys. James and Ian are good guys and were only to sympathetic when I had some issues (read misunderstanding) with the mag and the rankings.

I hope you guys can bounce back from this.

I might just put the rankings back on here if that is okay with everybody.

Maxie - this is what I mean...I'm not sure this is the case. Uppercut just wasn't going to work with the moron we had at the helm and it's failure has nothing to do with the view you express.

Of course, you might be right...but it was strangled at birth so we never really got a chance to find out if you are!

Basically I have loads of nice cuttings but an incredibly large overdraft. I'm doing something wrong. I had an interview with VK in The Sun four weeks ago (though didn't get the byline unfortunately).

However, I DID get paid. I think I prefer that way round, to be honest!

Sorry guys, have to say that from what I saw pretty awful looking mag, read it in Smiffies but didn't bother forking out the dosh. Copy okay on some articles, but the design.... uuuuuurrrrghh!!!

Feel sorry for all those who worked hard on it. I know what it's like to work on a new publication that doesn't take off and if I ever come face to face with the guy who stiffed me out of a couple of grand in wages, I'm gonna take him to the fuckin' cleaners!!! Never managed to bump into the guy though, which is annoying.

Yes - I much preferred it to the sh1te that Boxing Monthly spews out (though this wasn't always the case - BM used to be a good mag until that Glyn Leach started editing.)

I quite liked Uppercut - I thought it had a nice angle......but the only publication definitely worth buying (globally) is Boxing News.

I would be gutted if this ever went under. My Fridays would be spoiled (although it would have been nice to be paid for my Amir Khan photos, including one that was used on the cover! )

What was the name of that other weekly that was in a tabloid format when boxing News was still A4 size and Black and white?

I used to like that too and bought them both.

PS as an aside I don't agree with those that say boxing is dying in the newspapers - I think there was a time when reporting was poor, but it really seems to have picked up now - Metro (the free paper) had a whole page devoted to boxing every day last week, and has loads of coverage, The Sun (maybe because it is a Murdoch paper) had loads including a regular Friday column, N of the W has the admittedly dogsh1t FW column, the Evening Standard has a regular 'Talk in Boxing' column on wednesday...... I think it is great.
