No excuse..

I did read on Twitter that he was ill, whilst the fight was taking place.

F*ck the excuses. As if it's his first close fight. He edged Jacobs bout just a little bit. He had two razor-close Canelo bouts, no official wins there for him. It's just fighting top guys. And now it was pro-Golovkin robbery, Derev won that.

Very few fighters enter the ring having undergone “perfect” training camps and having attained peak physical condition. They all usually engage in bouts whilst suffering from slight aches and pains, as well as previously experienced brief bouts of illness during the lead-up to fight night.

These excuses we’re suddenly hearing about GGG, not only undermine Golovkin’s credibility, but they also reek of dishonesty, whilst also discrediting Sergiy Derevyanchenko’s fine efforts.

If I was GGG, I would be frustrated about the excuses his team were making on his behalf.

The Kazakh had a great fight against the Ukraine and both fighters should be applauded for their efforts.

Team GGG’s excuses are achieving nothing but painting themselves in a poor light.

Jerks who are calling sickness an excuse must have boxed good opponents while being sick themselves :shame:

Golovkin is self-managed and self-promoted. He’s in complete control over his own destiny.

Had he tasted defeat last night, due to making a poor decision about competing regardless of being “ill”, then the blame would have fallen squarely on his own shoulders.

When AJ underperformed against Ruiz Jr., all we heard was excuses from Matchroom/DAZN. The same approach is being applied to GGG.

Golovkin should tell the media to ignore his team’s claims and instead focus on applauding Derevyanchenko for giving him such a stern challenge.

Johnathon didn't bring up the excuse. The interviewer did. Johnathon said it didn't matter if GGG was I'll. It was G that decided to fight. Sounds more than fair to me.

Team GGG, be-it Golovkin's training team or business partners at Matchroom or DAZN, leaked the illness. If it truly didn't matter, no one would have told the media of Golovkin's alleged illness.

Remember what happened with AJ, he tried to praise Ruiz Jr., but his team were fabricating all sorts of excuses?

Maybe he was horribly ill. :maybe:

It came out Holyfield fought with the flu once. Should that have been kept under wraps?

He was also ill against Brook

Just excuses to earn money and not accept that boxed horribly. Pacman also lied, he was ok to the doctors about his shoulder when he lost to Mayweather. Why not say the truth before the fight and reschedule? Because money talks. Even Mayweather broke his hand 1 month before McGregor bout and schooled him.

There were rumours about Golovkin being allegedly "ill" against Kell Brook, but they weren't corroborated by any of Team GGG’s insiders. Gennadiy himself dismissed those rumours as being false.

excuses, Derevyanchenko clearly won the fight, ggg was not even remotely as active and busy as the canelo fights. Derevyanchenko backed ggg up and landed multiple combination punches, any time ggg got him with something he responded right back most of the time.

He didn’t clearly win anything. If you think he did that’s fine.. he did however clearly get knocked down and he did clearly outbox in most of the middle rounds.

... and his face was clearly a complete mess after the fight. It was nothing like that after Jacobs fight, so Golovkin's punches were CLEARLY more effective.

His jab alone was effective. Sometimes people really underestimate the power of a jab, let alone the power of GGG’s jab, which probably feels like a power punch. He probably won the fight on the jab alone.

Golovkin was still Golovkin, he's just now in that stage where he's fading as a fighter and each fight he'll probably get worse. To be expected when a guy is going on 38 and had 40 pro fights and like 300-400 am fights. For a guy his age it's actually a pretty good accomplishment to come back from a tough loss and beat an opponent like Derev to win a title again, even if it was a hellish fight.

I give him more respect for this than for beating on the likes of Mart Murray and despite some moans it was a perfectly legit win. Excellent fight too, GGG has been providing good value for the fans even in this final stage of his career

:TU: Good perspective Thatcher.

What's even more impressive is that he's still operating at this level given his style. His style isn't one that favors a long career.

I doubt any fighter enters a fight in perfect condition, hard training will take its toll on anyone. I guess it depends on what they mean by ill, a physical injury (hand or whatever) or sick as he had a bug or virus. I imagine having the flu for example could be harder than dealing with an injury.

Also what's the deal with his trainer, he has about as much energy and enthusiasm as a wet lettuce.

So sick Golovkin with an injured hand dropped and defeated the best version of Derevo. Not bad.

Maybe Derev had injuries/illnesses too, he just doesn't have nutboys to bring them up :maybe:

GGG got the win matey, one he deserved in a really good fight, no need to pull out the lame stuff
