Can't see how they get into Japan without linking up to a current promoter, but the ones of note (Ohashi, Teiken, Watanabe, Reason, Kadoebi) already have some form of distribution... Or at least the notable fighters do and DAZN JP has never shown a domestic Japanese card. Not impossible but certainly not a straight forward thing from what I can see.... Unless the plan is wait until after the Olympics and let DAZN directly manage fighters and point them to a lesser known gym for licensing and work with a bigger gym for promotion... (Like when Murata signed with Fuji TV as a Misako gym managed Teiken and Top Rank promoted guy)

The one alternative is to link up with the people behind the Asign shows and Shinsei and Muto gym but neither has anyone at world level (technically Shinsei have a couple of female world class fighters I guess)

... So in summary... It'd be late 2020 for Japan

Yeh, I was thinkinh they would need to link up with a promoter.. Do most boxing cards in Japan air for free?

My understanding is that Matchroom are looking to build a team and open an office in Tokyo. What they are trying to do via DAZN is be able to offer fighters to sign with them and fight all over the world.

DAZN currently have a lot of subscribers in Japan and I believe the plan is just to make cheap content for them. The plan I believe is to launch in a way similar to America whereby they will try to sign some of the Olympic candidates. The rumour is they have already signed Fujimoto and I also heard the plan was to potentially launch with a big fight from one of their American stars. For instance GGG vs Murata or Haney vs Nakatani.

If Matchroom pull off deals in all of these markets they will have a lot of power over worldwide boxing

Domestic level cards no., not really.

G+ (pay TV) do a monthly domestic card (under the Dynamic Glove banner), as well as some other one offs (i.e. Rookie of the Year East and West finals are on tape delay, All Japan final is live). These are sometimes live,sometimes tape delay.
Fuji TV (free tv) do a monthly tape delay broadcast of a domestic card (under the Diamond glove banner) - these typically have a Japanese or OPBF/WBO Asia pacific title fight
TBS (free tv) do a show every few months (under the Guts fighting banner), on tape delay
Boxingraise (an online VOD service run by one of the promoters an costing 980 yen) do 4 to 6 domestic cards a month, 1 of which is usually live
YTV, CBC have occasional shows in their geographic markets

What they however do have is their biggest names live on free TV (Ioka is on TBS, Tanaka is on CBC, Inoue and Murata are on Fuji TV), which is different to every where else, or streams (Kyoguchi Vs Hisada was live streamed for free on MBS and Youtube)

Opening an office would be smart, but they will (to hold JBC sanctioned fights) need to work with someone with a gym so they'd need to either set up their own (and battle the likes of Teiken, Ohashi and Watanabe for fighters) or work with an existing gym that doesn't have a notable distribution outlet (So Mutoh, Yokohama Hikari, World Sport Boxing or Kaneko for example).

DAZN do have a GOOD number of subscribers in Japan, but it's certainly not a massive number, and given Japanese boxing fans don't typically pay for their biggest name fighters (due to free TV) the service will struggle to use it as a launch pad. The Olympic candidates is the idea, but they'd be even better by snapping up then 2020 medalists (a lot of the prospective fighters have already ran pro -such as Yudai Shigeoka, Kenta Lee, Mikito Nakano), whilst others (like Hayato Tsutsumi) seem likely to sign with a recognised Japanese promotional outfit (I'd hazard a guess with Tsutsumi signing with Ohashi and be signed to a similar "tough competition only" deal to Inoue).

Fujimoto can't draw shit to flies (and his Kadoebi stablemate is signed to Top Rank, so would likely make more sense to for Fujimoto to look that way), Murata is with Fuji TV (and draws 10,000,000 viewers for them, so can't see them letting him go to a rival) and Nakatani has retired (and was never someone who would budge the needle).

There isn't much financial backing either, the prospects normally fight for free to get their wins.
Then after building up their unbeaten record the jump into championship class is enormous. It's a shame because there is some talent here and with the economic situation there are a lot of hungry fighters.

What about MTK - they are in Marbella.

Martinez not manage a lot of Spanish/Hispanic fighters in Spain.

In the sixties and seventies, There were scores of professional shows every month all over Spain, the sport there is more or less dead.

It's never on TVE, usually it's on regional channels, the bigger fights on PPV or showed delayed for free on GOL. It's not dead but often the shows maybe only have one pro fight, the other fights on the bill would be amateur and semi pro. It's only the bigger ones with a full pro card and even then amateurs and semi pro's are still mixed in.
Investment is the problem, many pros fight for free so it's more of a hobby.

The guys in the north of Spain seem to have their act together though.

Strange they'd have choosen an Italian company to operate in their Spanish region. Interesting choice, is that definately correct.

The Basque Country area see themselves as a separate country. For example with Athletico Bilbao in the football, you can only play for them if you are born in the Basque Country.
They really get behind their fighters.

Not just Basque boxing that is thriving but Kerman is phenomenal but right across northern Spain including Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia.

However Spanish politicians are doing this to get voters in the upcoming election.
Also they do this to distract attention from the real problems in Spain.

Good venue as well. If they fill that it should be a great atmosphere.
