Does anyone know him personally or seen him about? I hear lots of stories on the grapevine about mental health, substance abuse etc but nobody seems to really know what he is up to.

I liked Nathan when he was with Enzo, I rated him highly and thought he would follow in Joe's footsteps but felt that leaving Enzo his career didn't do as well as he could have?

Be good to know what he is doing these days?

Dean Powell ran the corner.

He never had the boxing ability to go too far. He was not the type to be able to get behind a jab and outbox an opponent. He was a Fonfara level guy, probably not even on Fonfaras level at his best.

I know Nathan personally, his dad Vince done his corner, dean just wrapped his hands and helped in the corner, he had some personal family fall out and trained with a fella called Darren who used to do his strength work with him and took over training for his last few fights.

Nathan used to come down and train with me quite regularly tbh throughout his whole career, Nathan is ok, he’s had his troubles like most of us, he’s a genuinely great lad, I haven’t seen him personally for a while due to a accident I had personally and having to undergo numerous spinal surgeries hence I’ve taken some time out of boxing, so have been off my feet and focusing on that and my rehab,, I haven’t even spoken to many people, but when I bumped into his dad with his younger brother not long ago he said Nathan is doing very well, and his younger brother is now boxing amateur which was great to hear

One thing you can guarantee. Every four-to-six weeks there'll be a 'Where's Nathan Cleverly ?' thread on here. Hopefully he's having a good time spending his well-earned money !

He was absolutely better than Fonfara considering a shot version almost beat him

Nathan was an excellent prospect on the way up quick and sharp with great fluid combinations, I believe he started as a welterweight against Darren Gethin (who once sparked out Tyan Booth), after losing to Kovalev his hunger just seemed to go, looked like he didn't give a shit about winning the second Bellew fight

I know Vince was in charge, but seemed to let Dean take over when needed. Much like Enzo.

Cleverly looked excellent on the way up, very fluid with a cultured and varied offence. The loss to kovalev seemed a real shock to the system, and he never looked the same mentally.

That was one of those fights where you could see as soon as he felt Kov's power through his gloves he realised he might be in the shit. That's how it appeared form the outside anyway.

I remember Freddie Roach saying he really liked Cleverly's attitude and would definitely be willing to train him. Not sure how serious the offer was, but seems like it would have been a good styles fit.

In th Kovalev loss there were perhaps the first inklings of a slight frailty in the Russian. I remember th commentary team picking up on the fact he'd gone a bit quiet and might be tiring. I think it's a shame Cleverly didn't have the Calzaghe X Factor, and permanently taken over at that point.

Fonfara wasn't at his best either.

Fonfara is better than Cleverly and beats him at any point of their careers imo. Outside of going caught early and banged out, which Cleverly would never have done to him, Fonfara put in good showings, even extending Stevenson the distance in a good fight.

I remember Fon getting schooled by Campillo till breaking him down late. He was one of those fighters who was sort of slow and ugly to watch, but he would get to guys over the long haul often

It would be lovely to see Kov do another "Cleverly" on Canelo in a few weeks

I was ringside for him winning his paper title and I recall feeling some disappointment in his abilities, as he was being groomed as some kind of successor to Calzaghe. The hiding from Kovalev would have mentally broken any boxer, and Iosing to Bellew at Cruiser was the nail in the coffin. Both were awful that night, although Cleverly clearly was carrying a broken hand or something. I don't know why he has never admitted that.

Seems like a nice lad and hopefully made some money.

How do you know he spent his money wisely?
