Well the festive time is upon us once again and I was wandering if any of my fellow posters were going to get any Boxing related gifts on the big day?

I am not that I know of, but I know I am getting series 1 on DVD of The Sweeney

Which of course starred Dennis Waterman the younger brother of former British Welterweight Champion Peter.

I usually get something related to training, but I doubt it this year. My parents are anti me going back to a club.

same i always get something,,, maybe a new vest and shorts for rest of season, maybe some dvds, c what happens

Getting a couple of books. Johnny Owen, Jack Johnson and the forgotten Scottish boxers which I am looking forward to, and also getting a porn dish to watch the European boxing

Ah Joe, but The Sweeney is more boxing related than you may realise. It was written by Ranald Graham - a fine writer and nice fella who wrote a few excellent articles on the unlicensed game for uppercut.

Ah Joe, but The Sweeney is more boxing related than you may realise. It was written by Ranald Graham - a fine writer and nice fella who wrote a few excellent articles on the unlicensed game for uppercut.

Also former Pro Heavyweight Nosher Powell had a few bit parts in the Sweeney, usually playing a 'heavy'.

In the fight scenes (IMO) you could really tell Dennis Waterman had followed big brother into the gym and picked up a few tricks. When throwing punches they looked 'nautral' not forced as with most actors. His character Carter was of course an ex-amatuer Boxer.

The one that was on the back of boxing news a couple of times, last month, I know it has some stuff on Alex Lafferty a boxer I have been researching for a while, I know the missus got it for me, but it's well hidden so I'll have to wait to Xmas day!

The one that was on the back of boxing news a couple of times, last month, I know it has some stuff on Alex Lafferty a boxer I have been researching for a while, I know the missus got it for me, but it's well hidden so I'll have to wait to Xmas day!

It was out in 2001 - Box set, contains 5 discs (all movies) "Rocky" has got a fair few special features, commentary, tribute Burgess Meredith trailers to all of the films and also a good section which shows Sly and Carl Weathers "sparring". The other Discs are just the other movies and the trailers for that movie (all of which are shown on the Rocky DVD).

Its 25 quid in MVC now! It has a grey cover. There is a new one out next week, it has all the movies not sure what else.

I've never liked the Rocky films, too corny, but maybe cause I just can't stand Stallone. I always prefered Somebody up there likes me - haven't seen it in years though.

Not at all Ian you werent hallucinating. Bernard usually offers himself in a black tux (still looking uncannilly like Alf Roberts)....



but i suppose now its the festive season he feels its more apt to to dress in a red white ensemble....




cant say im overly impressed with the "M.C, Toastmaster, Auctioneer dont book all theree, book Bernard" tag line though. I much prefer the "will travel" its much more snappier. Besides he looks far too glum and serious with his new red suit on.

It does make it easier to cheer him up though and add a dash of festive spirit......

Or do you mean Roy West? Nosher was the MC for some of Roys unlicenced fights of course.

So is Bernard any good at his job, there are some poor ones on TV - I would like to see Bernard get some TV time, it would be fun.

might i suggest a boxrec get together somewhere central to maximise numbers ( say edinburgh) and we could hire bernard as the MC or toastmaster?

im sure he would do a disacount for the extra publicity we've given him. any takers?
