No pros in the olympics!

At all Im gonna say.

Demotes himself to the minor leagues so he can compete with 20-year-olds. Very honorable. An amateur medal would mean so much after competing in the pros 13 years.

The top amateurs at this weight aren't really that young overall. Savon and Levitt are 29 and 31, the runner-up at the worlds this year is also 31, the British rep and Euro bronze medalist is 28 or 29, the bronze medalist at the worlds this year is 26, the runner up at the euros I think is 27, the Korean guy who upset Levitt and won the Asian championship is also 27. The youngest major player at this weight in the ams will still be 23 next year (looks at least 30 now though lol), so not just some teenage baby or anything like that.

The ams all being teens or 20 is not a global thing, though it's true of the US a lot of the time. But Cuba and many of the top countries of Europe and Asia have the guys stay amateur late or even their whole boxing career.

The amateur format is of course very different too, boxing long pro fights isn't better prep than boxing actual am fights. The pros who've tried so far at the ams have not done that well.
