49 fights in 2&1/2 years. He might actually be making a living out of it.
Maybe not a great living, but it must.be keeping the lights on at least. Good on him.

Can be good money being the loser ,, Remember about 20 years ago , took a lad away for a fight , the main event loser , pulled up at the hotel , in a taxi , promoter had been panicking he was'nt gonna show anyway he came with me and my lad to the show , i had met him before , he asked if i could work his corner , no problem , not long before the fight , him and said promoter were having a arguement it concerned taxi money , this guy had refused to miss time off work so there fore missed the promoter picking him up at the airport , he had changed his flight to a later one , meaning he got in late and had to catch a taxi to the venue ,, , promoter did'nt want to pay the taxi fare , he said he wanted it and his purse UP FRONT or he was'nt going in , promoter said if you caught the plane when you were supposed to he would of picked him up , anyway promoter renaged or lose his main event , so he paid him , the boxers attitude was you don't pay enough for me to lose a day of work , so get stuffed , pay for the taxi , i'm not .
There was a bit of , bad blood , and the promoter said something along the lines of you will get yours in the ring ,, Well this guy exploded , He said to the promoter in the excact words . You brought me to lose , your backing a fooking idiot who knows i'm paid to lose , if he hits me hard i'll put him away inside that rnd .
Fight went on , started of lots of big slaps , , nothing real hard but looking like a hard fight , and bingo , promoters boy drops him , , he got up came back to the corner and said to me , glad i got paid first cos now i'm gonna fook him up ,, honest to god , it took him all of 30-40 seconds including the count to put the fella away ,
Promoter asked after what the fook you doing , he answered fook him you and the scritpt , , what you backing a muppet for ,,, afterwards we went out and he told me I won the title then sold it and been selling my name ever since , but he said i'm to crafty to get hurt but still good enough to do that if they get smart , I said you'll never get another gig again he said bollocks everyone will pay for a good loser ... Moral of the story don't always look at a record and take it for gospel

Sorry no names from me , not on a internet forum ,, will say though it was'nt any big name fighters , it was a smaller town hall type show , no one you would recognise from 20 odd years ago .
I will add it was a case once again of a promoter , putting his hard earned on the wrong horse , because , he was somehow convinced the main event he had would hit the big time , never relizing if he had to pay or handpick his wins he was backing the wrong horse , which he did , because this so called future star , never fought again after he got beat , , this is something we see all the time and i honestly cannot fathom it ,, for me a perfect example would be Conor Benn , why oh why a promoter would hand pick his fights like they do , really has me stumped , he ends up making good money , then gets beat and retires , and all along theres been better lads up and down the country who can't get a promoter behind them ,, Its always been there , it always will but not something i can understand ... Fight at your own level and if you got it you got it .
In this case it was a small time promoter , thinking he was gonna hit the big time with a small time boxer . who come unstuck , believing his own publicity .

i saw a couple of similar stories in the small halls. when the cosseted local favourite starts unfolding it becomes very stark that he was protected all along. I saw one once, the kid clearly just didn't like being hit, hated it, you could see on his face both the panic of actually being in a real fight ('This isn't supposed to happen...'), and the fear that he was going to get battered. This one kid, they promoted him as some kind of James Bond I think it was, I mean he was a goodlooking lad, way too goodlooking for a boxer haha, came into the ring with a tuxedo and shades looking all suave, but when the going got tough it was like he wanted the image of being a boxer, but definitely not the pain that goes along with it.

The longer your involved,, the more you see , It certainly is a funny game,, By and large 80 % of boxing is pure fun , laughs , freindships , and great stories to tell when your round the table with like minded people , and everyone has similar stories to tell , cos heh its people were dealing with ,,, But there is that element who really give me the shits , and thats the ones out to make a dollar , out of somone elses pain , by mis matching , telling lies , and bullshit , and these same people they would'nt have the guts to put it on the line themselves

I love hearing about stuff like this. Yes people often pay too much attention to a fighters record and dismiss them as nobodies, when sometimes the fighter is playing the fall guy so he can get regular fights and earn a living. If they upset the applecart they risk being black balled.

This lad is so much better than his record would suggest as are many away fighters

Steve Robinson always springs to mind when talking about journeymen, he got an unexpected world title shot with only 48 hours notice. Prior to this he was working full time and had a fairly average 13-9-1 record. Once he started training full time he took advantage of the title shot and won the title and went on to make 7 title defences and beat Colin McMillan, Duke McKenzie and Paul Hodkinson. Just goes to show what some of these guys can do when they have time to train properly and maybe trying to win the fight as opposed to going through the motions.
