Cotto prepared to fight Hatton

According to his promoter Bob Arum, his charge Miguel Cotto wants to prove he is the world's best next year and is prepared to fight anybody, anywhere.

So if the Tszyu fight doesn't come off, Ricky has another option.

I don't think they will be interested in this fight, losing to Tszyu is not as damaging reputation wise as being done by Cotto. I could of course be wrong, but the focus seems to be entirely on Tszyu.

I think Cotto v Hatton would be a tremendous fight though.

If Hatton's ever going to fight Cotto, it's going to have to be soon. Otherwise he might as well forget it, because Cotto's improving all the time.

If it was to happen early in the new year, then it might be a fairly even contest, if only because Cotto's still an unknown quantity against someone with Hatton's style. Once Cotto becomes more seasoned and gets more experience agianst pressure fighters, I wouldn't give Hatton a hope.

Hatton was very good last time out, it was possibly one of his best performances, but even that showing would not be good enough to beat Cotto.

Ricky’s defence seems to be an excellent offence; against Oliviera he basically punched him into submission, never letting up for a moment with his sharp and accurate work. Oliveira offered very little in reply which considering his reputation as a bit of a high rate hitter himself was quite baffling.

Was Oliveira unable to do this because he’d never faced such a relentless pressure fighter like Ricky before? Though he figured in two fights that accumulated the highest punch stats on record.
Or was it because at 36 yrs old he was simply past it? And whilst I would agree he was in magnificent shape he certainly was not the same fighter he once was.

Cotto works very well when he is in the other fighters face, he keeps his gloves very high, literally around his ears, and when he fires them they are packed with dynamite be they body shots or to the head.

Where as Ricky keeps his hands much lower, thus exposing his chin that little bit more, a young and ambitious fighter will let their punches go that bit sooner, they will punch as Ricky punches, where as the old trial horse or smaller fighter will have a part of their game plan on survival so will not be as ambitious to take a risk.

Ricky I would fancy against Gatti because Gatti can be hit and hurt, sure he would be dangerous but I think Hatton could smother a lot of Gatti` s work and score the KO win.
The same with Vivian Harris and Floyd Mayweather, Floyd is something of an unknown at the 10stone division and I don’t think he’ll carry a big punch to keep Ricky out.
Kostya I feel would line Ricky up with the right hand of his sometime in the fight and that would be the end of it.
Kostya whilst not the fighter he was still has the experience to land the right hand on an advancing Hatton.

And any Hatton debate is not complete without Witter getting a mention.
Witter I feel makes too many mistakes and Ricky with his quick sharp offence I see just jumping on him and getting a quick stoppage.

After all the talk of fighting Tszyu and the fight already having been "verbally agreed to" Frankie and Ricky shouldnt really be interested in this fight should they? they've constantly said Hattons up for fighting the best and Tszyu's the man right now.... unless of course it hasnt been made!!??

You can alomst hear Frankie jumping up and down with joy if this turns out to be true. Hatton could possibly beat Cotto just now, but in a year or two have no chance, where as Tszyu would go right through Hatton just now but maybe not in a couple fo years as he gets on a little more at 36 or 37.

So lets all be prepared for the Tszyu negotiations 'breaking up due to 'contractual problems' ie Kosta wont fight in Manchester and Cotto stepping in.

Ricky Hatton has been hurt on a few occasions by uppercuts. This just happens to be one of Cotto's favourite punches. He threw a nice combo up close and finished it with an uppercut to put Pinto down in the round before he knocked him out.

Non sequitur: Cotto prepared to fight Hatton. Hatton not prepared to fight Cotto. The fight will happen.

Won't happen, just like the fight with Zoo won't happen, Show disrepect is surely the way to get Zoo's back up , and announcing fights are made before they have spoke to him is one way of getting Zoo offside.

Course Fwanky knows this, and any obstacle he can put in the way of a Zoo fight , is a good obstacle , just has long has he can keep calling Zoo out with the future prepared statement Zoo's ducking us , Its all good to Fwanky, course this little upstart Cotto well whats he playing at he's gonna spoil all the best laid plans , which are of course ,

Mouth about Zoo, put obstacles in the way such has the 3 million they offered is paid in ten year installments and the fight has to happen in Manchester with Vann has the sole ref and judge.

When its erefused , FIGHT NDOU FOR THE VACANT TITLE.

Fackin hope to god Zoo calls there bluff and demands it goes to purse bids or better yet , knocks him out in Manchester

Ricky can only beat the people who they put in front of him and he keeps doing that. Why is everyone better than Hatton for no other rason than people dont like his promoter?

Ricky wants to prove himself against the best so why not give him the chance? I don't understand why all the negative Hatton vibes on here. He might not be the best at his weight - I think he is of course! - but we will only know when he gets the big fights.

People have been hearing this crap for 3 years and he still hasn't stepped up even some of his best supporters have started questioning him in the last year or so.

If Hatton really wanted the big fights then he'd get off his backside and go and get them. Go to the States, get himself noticed over there, make his name and make himself a more viable proposition for the big names of the division, even if it means switching promoter (which he threatened to do but didn't go through with it).

Here's a fight to be made, Cotto wants to fight Hatton, so get the fight made if the Tszyu fight doesn't happen (I won't say falls through because Tszyu hasn't agreed to it yet). Cotto is recognised as one of the names in world boxing, let alone the division, so perfect opportunity for Hatton if he truly does want to fight the best surely?

Alot of people lost respect for him because he pulled out of the WBA mandatory spot when he had a great chance to actually hold a real world title.

Smit I am honest enough to admit I didnt know that

I dont like all of these world titles that are available, but assumed he wasnt being given the chane to fight for a more meaningful one. Who would he have fought for the WBA?

Us fans can't give Hatton the chance to fight the best that's up to 'Team Hatton' to do.

I'm a big Hatton fan and think he is right in the mix of the worlds best Light-Welterweight but like many others I am tired of hearing 2001 then 2002 then 2003 then 2004 then 2005.................. will be the year of Ricky Hatton.

Wont be happening. And I'd definitely favour Cotto, he looks set to be one of the best around for a while to come and has everything in his locker. I think he'd break Hatton up over 6 or 7 rounds. Hatton has been rattled and hurt by guys with far less power and technique.

Interesting to hear McGuigan say that he thought Cotto was THE BEST light welter in the world after Cotto beat Bailey. Have to agree. I love watching Cotto fight more than any other fighter I can remember. Devastating puncher, speed, accuracy, GREAT defence, perfect balance and combinations all the time.

Cotto is the perfect fighter. Hatton would get destroyed in 4 rounds Max IMO.

If Hatton ever managed to beat Cotto, I'd be really really REALLY shocked. It would be like Douglas beating Tyson IMO.

You don't half get carried away! :P 8)

As for being in mandatory/number one positions...can somebody who actually follows the belt system clarify for me - how many boards (major ones) has Hatton been number one contender for?

I'm sure the WBA isn't the only one.

WBA & WBO (when Corley was champ I think).

How about IBF?

I'm pretty sure that only the WBC haven't had him rated as the mandatory at some stage or other. He's been WBO twice now, WBA once (they still have him at #2), plus he's the current IBF #1.

Edit: Of course he could have already fought for the IBF belt. But the proposed Mitchell fight fell through? He could have taken Sharmba's place on the canvas against Tszyu.

Oh yeah. I was more thinking the mandatory slots where he didnt take up the chance to fight for the title. We can prob add the IBF to that list soon enough.
