If Canelo Alvarez beats Sergey Kovalev it would be his 4th world title in different weight classes (154, 160, 168, 175). Kovalev is possibly a future HOFer himself and some people might think Canelo is already a lock for the HOF whether he beats Kovalev or not.

There may even be a few who think Canelo hasnt done enough to make the HOF even with a victory over Kovalev, but they would probably be a very small minority.

Your thoughts?

Why? He's been a prolonged champion, he gathered three belts and defeated some quality opposition convincingly.

Canelo, yes. Kov, maybe, but he'd have to beat Alvarez IMHO.

Don't know about kovalev, he'd rate below Dawson all time. Chad will have no chance but should have one.

Moving up divisions isn't like it was back in the days of Henry Armstrong. 4 pounds ain't nothing. Canelo fought at 168 already. 7 pounds more is two good shvts.

You say it like the guy is 42 or something. He's YOUNGER than the Mayweather Canelo fought.

Kovalev is not what he was marketed to be but he's still much much bigger and still has pretty good boxing ability and power.

Plus Kovalev has one of the best trainers in the sport: Buddy McGirt. Sergey's boxing skills have improved much under McGirt.
