I know this fight took place ages ago but didn't the referee in that fight favour Bruno given all the rabbit punching Bruno was doing? Also, a few shots after Lewis connected with that left hook, the ref halted the action and warned Lewis for something and then let the fight go on although Bruno was gone. Kind of strange, eh?

I have not watched that fight for a few years but I think just before the fight ended Lewis was warned for holding Brunos head up with his left whilst striking with his right.

Remember the fight was nearly called off - outdoors in Wales I think, and it had poured rain all day, right up to a few hours before the fight.

Lewis had called Bruno an uncle tom and I think Bruno served him with a writ.....or something like that.

It was Bruno who started it, saying Lewis wasn't a real Brit etc.

I see... I just noticed when I watched the fight again, Bruno had the words "Real Brit" written on his trunks. What was the public opinion of Lewis at that time?

Bruno was deeply hurt by being called an Uncle Tom.

Bruno I think carried deep feelings of inferiority around with him, especially with regard to Lewis, who made him feel stupid.

Watch Lewis and Bruno when they were in the Studio for Douglas v Tyson, Bruno interrupts Lewis once, and apologises profusely for about 30 seconds, it's really flesh crawling stuff. When they ask him for an opinion on something in the buildup to the fight, you can see beads of sweat bursting out all over Frank's face and he begins to talk himself down and contradict himself, it's really awful to watch.

I think Frank always knew that he got where he did by playing the loveable dumb goon, something which he certainly wasn't in reality. He was advised to be non-threatening, and I think it really got to him in the end. Lewis tapped into those feelings, and Frank probably hasn't forgiven him to this day.

Seem to remember this was the fight where the MC put the mic between the boxers for Mickey's pre-fight chat. The Leeds-based former ballroom dancer didn't realise and rolled off several expletives which were heard clearly.

Think he got his wrist slapped over it.

Was'nt it on the lines of telling Pepe Corea "dont give me no shit" only going on memory here but I think Pepe was talking Lewis out of touching gloves. I've heard others say mickey Vann was using words alot stronger but I cant remember....

He called both Lewis and Bruno "a fornicating disgrace" at one point. Vann had a bad night. Lewis had a bad night and won (the sign of real class). Bruno never looked better. He outjabbed Lewis and had the fight there for the taking. But his lack of natural fighting instincts came to the fore again when hurt. He just stood there and allowed Lewis to tee off on him.

Yeah thats what I was told but never picked up on it when watching the fight..What happened to Vann then, a reprimand or something I take it.

Honestly, you will be surprised how well Big Frank was doing. He was relatively in control from what I can remember.

But like the cliche goes about championship football sides, the key is to win when you're not at your best and even Bigger Len did the business.

Mickey Vann, along with Richie Davies got to be the top refs though. With Dave Parris a close third..

I personally like Ian John Lewis, only one time I can be critical with him involved and that was the fight involving Docherty which should have been stopped (on the cuts).

I think he is my favourite ref, although the rest you mention are class also.

Was Rahman Lewis 1 outdoors but in humid heat??
