How does he far against the top of the SM and LH divisions, Bertebiev, Bivol, Smith, what do yoou think?

Kovalev never looked worse, never looked older. Canelo won by KO. the top boxers at the divisions mentioned are in prime. I have tremendus respect for canelos desire for huge achievemants, but the win didnt feel right, but i still would like to see him against the best.

I feel that Smith and Bivol are still relatively untested. In particular, they haven't fought smart body punching boxers.

Beterbiev will send Canelo to a hospital.

Stay at 175. He looks great. Fights with Zurdo, beterbiev or bivol would be excellent.

Smith fought groves, also smith punching power became better over time. He is no p4p top 10 type of boxer, but the best sm in the world with good height and power in his prime. I would favour him over canelo. What is smith, 6'3?

Either way he beats them all, total stud.

Groves is pretty limited.

Bivol has a good amateur pedegree. A sound boxer. Techniquly the best @sm &@lh. He may be the best lh in the world.

Bertebiev is just an destroyer. Aggressive, cruiserweight kind of punching power. Hurts body and head. The guy is nightmare. Very strong.

But from what I see from Canelo, he may have a set of all time great whiskers. The times he's been hurt, he's recovered rather easily. I mean, what if his chin isToney/Hagler/Hopkins level?

I think people believe in power punchers too much. Like trainer Stephen Edwards says, "who punches harder isn't as important as who takes the other's punches. And we've seen fighters rize in weight (Toney) where size isn't a factor in them being hurt.

Hell of a chin, absolutely. But I think the sane thing to say is that he has maxed out now in terms of seeking out bigger, stronger, harder hitting dudes, and he doesn't go on to challenge one of the light heavies fiercer and less worn than Kovalev.

Related question: if Alvarez beat the top fighters at LHW or SMW, would he get credit for it? Or would haters claim that his opponents were paid to take a dive?

I feel Canelo has been a natural super middleweight for years. On top of that I think he can beat all the top super middleweights, Smith included, however they would still be interesting to watch. Happy to watch him clean out smw and move to LHW if he wants another challenge. I don’t confidently pick him against Beterbeiv however it’s a hard fight for both.

As long as he keeps targeting the top guys consistently, say one hard fight followed by, one medium to softer fight and then repeat, then I’ll be content in terms of his competition.

I’ll always be suspicious of how ‘clean’ he is and his A side benefits but if we get some good fights out of it, that’s how it is.

Canelo-Bivol would be a good, competitive fight but I dont see him having much of a chance vs Beterbiev. IMO Canelo has a brighter future at 168 vs the likes of Smith, Saunders & Benavidez.

What about Canelo attempting to claim a world title at a fifth weight class by challenging the likes of Arsen Goulamirian or Beibut Shumenov for one of the 200lbs WBA world titles, since neither guy are big punchers? Low-hanging fruit, perhaps?

A fight against either champion would be easy to sell to the mainstream casuals, despite these opponents’ being anonymous, due to the nature of the truly historic feat being attempted.

John Ruiz wasn’t considered a big-name, but his historic bout against Roy Jones Jr. was a PPV event on both sides of the Atlantic (UK & US).

I think ‘68 is probably his best weight right now. I think a live, young light heavyweight would be a lot for him to deal with.

A significant win would include a significant risk which Canelo is not willing to take. BJS would probably be his first choice, as he is not hitting hard enough to stop Clenbnelo, and would likely be running the whole fight anyway.
