The injuries may have been worse than what was reported, but given what was reported I'd be surprised if this is truly the end of his career.
That being said I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if his injuries were in fact more extensive than any of us have been lead to believe. The crash was horrific.

I kept saying this when he was still in the hospital for over a week.
