Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury II - 22 February 2020

Deontay Wilder’s rematch with Tyson Fury is now official for February 22, and likely to take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fury’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank Boxing has confirmed that the rematch is now official for the 22nd of February.
WBC heavyweight champion Wilder (42-0-1, 41 KOs) did his part in defeating Luis Ortiz (31-2, 26 KOs) last Saturday night to clear the road for him to defend against mandatory Fury (29-0-1, 20 KOs). Wilder had a harder time working his way back to the rematch than Fury did, as he took Ortiz. That was a tough fight for Wilder. Fury has had it easy beating two B-level heavyweights in Otto Wallin and Tom Schwarz.
Wilder vs. Fury rematch will be on pay-per-view
The fight was made official on Tuesday. Unfortunately for boxing fans, this will be on pay-per-view rather than on regular ESPN and FOx. It’ll be a joint PPV event between those two networks.
It’s still too early to know how much the Wilder vs. Fury 2 fight will go on pay-per-view, but a good guess would be in the $70+ range. Fury is with Top Rank, and fights on ESPN, whereas Wilder is with Premier Boxing Champions and fights on Fox.
“We’re going to have an announcement before Christmas, but the fight is happening Feb. 22. You can go to sleep on that,” Arum said to ESPN.com.
Wilder’s managers Al Haymon and Shelly Finkel will meet with Arum to work out the location of the fight. They’ll be meeting a week from now to hammer out where the fight will be taking place. They want to get the venue agreed on as soon as possible.
“It will all get worked out in early December as far as the site, but the 22nd is the date,” Finkel said.
The good news for Wilder is the fight will be taking place in the United States instead of the UK, because they’ve got to start selling ticket. There isn’t a lot of time before February
Fury will be the visiting fighter no matter where it takes place in the States. It wouldn’t be bad for Fury if the fight took place in New York, because a lot of his British fans could make the flight over the ocean to watch it live.
Wilder-Fury 2 possible for MGM Grand in Las Vegas
The MGM Grand is the same venue for Fury’s last 2 fights against Otto Wallin and Tom Schwarz. Wilder fought there last Saturday against Ortiz.
The Wilder vs. Fury rematch will be marketed on ESPN and Fox, and it should get a lot of publicity.
You can argue that Fury is a step down for Wilder from his last opponent Ortiz, but he should make up for that with his gift for gab. Fury will likely do a better job selling the rematch against Wilder than Ortiz did. Fury is a good talker, and he gives the impression that he’s a knockout type fighter. It’s the opposite. He’s more of a pure boxer.
Wilder had problems with Fury in the first 8 rounds of their fight last December. However, in the championship rounds, Wilder figured out Fur and dropped him twice. The bout ended up being scored a draw.

Wilder will probably ko him this time unfortunately. Hope i'm wrong as i'd love to see Fury pull it off but Wilder is just so dangerous right to the last bell...

You really think so? I'm still on the fence about the rematch. Can't stand Fury but also can't take away his ability to turn a fight into a borefest.

Wilder was so bad but still put him down very hard and got a draw. I think it's easier for him to do just a bit better than it is for Fury to be switched on again.
This time I want Wilder to yell BOOOOOOMB SQUUUUUAD after each KD

Wilder didn't really catch Fury clean in the first fight. Both KD's were actually soft.
Fury was already half way down and moving backwards before the left hook hit. He did land another hook after the 2nd KD, but again, Fury is clever, he moves in the direction the punches will hit him, less impact.
Breazeale and Ortiz were caught clean and it goodnight..
I think Wilder needs to land that one punch CLEAN! If not, Fury will take it on points.
If Wilder avoids windmilling, he won't tire out like the first fight either. I really doubt Fury will KD Wilder at all.

Spot on about Fury not eating Wilders signature shot in the first fight. If he avoids it again he can win for sure. If Wilder lands it, it’s done.
Will be interesting to see what weight Wilder comes in at. He was very light in their fight.

Soft?? Fury was unconscious momentarily on the second KD.

The knockdown was hard but the shot wasn't Wilder's best flush shot. That's what he means.

Arum said he expects the fight to be held at the MGM Grand, which hosted Wilder-Ortiz as well as Fury's fight with Tom Schwarz on June 15. The casino was also the host hotel for Fury's bout with Otto Wallin, which took place on Sept. 14 at the MGM-owned T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
"There is no reason to believe the MGM won't do what they always do to attract a big fight because obviously this is the biggest fight, and no question the MGM loves to have the big fights," Arum said. "There's nothing written in stone, so Shelly is totally correct that the site is not 100 percent done, but all things being equal and the MGM does what they generally do, the fight will be at the MGM."
Arum said Feb. 22 was selected because it was an ideal date for the most promotion and marketing by ESPN and Fox.
"Everybody involved factored in that, it was the big date they could get the most bang and publicity for the event," Arum said. "The college football season is over, the NFL season is over, the playoffs haven't started yet in the NBA, and March Madness is a month away."

I don't think he was, and he rolled with those punches. He never really ate anything full on, like he did vs Cunningham.

Was that the hardest he was hit? or the self shot uppercut?

I wonder if Fury ever tries an inside fight vs Wilder (the calm in the centre of the hurricane and all that) or if it's just doing the same tactics as the first time, but trying to be more alert

He did a great job of avoiding the big shots in the first fight. Not sure how much better he can be at that. Fighting on the inside creates situations where he'll be in perfect range for a right at times. I expect much of the same from the first fight from him. I'm more curious if Wilder can approach this one differently. Maybe more patience?

If he's inside, then he's inside the long right hand. On the outside he's at the end of the power hand. Fury briefly went in in the last minute or so and did his best offense of the fight. He used to fight inside and was handy at it. Prob too much of a tactical shift though, I imagine he'll try the same thing but try to be more alert this time, there is room for improvment when he got dropped twice I guess
Ya, Wilder was super patient wasn't he, pretty hard to improve on the patience he showed in that one

He ducks down and with the right the hook. It still lands pretty hard on his ear. The second shot I don't think there's much in it, wilder seems to push through it.

It was a good shot in a sensitive spot. A punch can land clean without necessarily sending a guy's head snapping way back

That's my point really. He wasn't patient at all. He kept on swinging at air. I can't really come to expect anything much different from either.
