Do they actually measure fighters reach, biceps, thighs, fist etc.. or are all the measurements just made up?

Some are certainly legitimate. Every world title fight in Japan has a medical which sees...Height, Reach, Neck, Chest being measured (along with blood pressure and visual acuity) and the numbers being officially released, the bicep, thighs fist etc I've no idea about and likewise I'm not sure who else does a medical like that

I was listening to Bunce the other night and he said it's all a myth, there are plenty of examples where the measurements just don't seem to look right.

I guess any pros on here can easily confirm.

I always say within rugby there are loads that you can just see are bollocks.

I remember Andre Ward and Durrell being down as 3 inches taller than Carl froch and only looking an inch or so taller was suspicious.

Nadeem Hamed being 5ft3 in some tale of the tapes and 5ft5 or 6 in others was also off.

Mike Tyson’s height is an obvious one - I have also net a few pros who are not as tall as their Boxrec heights so I would guess that bicep size etc are even less accurate.

Can't speak about the rest of the world, but here's a report from one of the Japanese ones (a rare one with fist measurements)
https://boxingnews.jp/news/70853/, same figures given here https://the-ans.jp/news/92262/, https://boxmob.jp/sp/news/index.html?nid=24544&n=1 (this includes pulse, blood pressure and body temperature),

Would be interested to see if there was a depository of some kind with the JBC as they are the only commission I know that definitely do these for every world title fight.

I suspect some just go with what the fighter the fighters tell them. I know in Thailand the measurements have included pulse rates and stuff

Reach has always been silly because it includes girth of shoulders and back. So many examples of height clearly being wrong, recorder probably just asks.

For years Mike Tyson was listed as 5'11 1/2 and then that changed to 5'10", I'm not sure he's even that tall. I always wondered about Liston's 84" reach as well, the bloke was only 6'1"

Where was that changed? I always thought it sounded too tall for Tyson but Larry Merchant said on an 80s HBO telecast that they had checked his height themselves and he really was 5'11 1/2''!

Liston on tape clearly has abnormally long arms. Chuck Wepner who is 6'5'' said it felt like he could stand at the other side of the ring and still that long jab would hit him. There are always going to be mutants.

Tyson isn't that tall, you only have to see him standing next to other people to see that and he normally wears really thick trainers.

Go to 1 min 25 seconds into below video, Tyson is standing away from the measure, all smoke and mirrors.

Ha. Saying that blokes assume women have a magical way of knowing a guys length, I bet if you asked 100 woman to draw a 10 inch line the measurements would differ dramatically

Heights are certainly inflated, I bet a lot of the time the boxer's team just gives the numbers

Tyson was so heavily muscled and generally stocky that it would make him appear shorter than he actually is.

It's the same as when you get a tallish guy but who is very skinny, it creates the illusion of them being taller than they actually are.

I'd say he's 5'10" maximum, maybe a tad shorter.
