Are 'tale of the tape' measurements made up?

Do they actually measure fighters reach, biceps, thighs, fist etc.. or are all the measurements just made up?
Some are certainly legitimate. Every world title fight in Japan has a medical which sees...Height, Reach, Neck, Chest being measured (along with blood pressure and visual acuity) and the numbers being officially released, the bicep, thighs fist etc I've no idea about and likewise I'm not sure who else does a medical like thatControversial wrote: ↑07 Dec 2019, 08:09 Do they actually measure fighters reach, biceps, thighs, fist etc.. or are all the measurements just made up?
I was listening to Bunce the other night and he said it's all a myth, there are plenty of examples where the measurements just don't seem to look right.Boxing Prospect wrote: ↑07 Dec 2019, 08:13Some are certainly legitimate. Can't speak about the rest of the world, but here's a report from one of the Japanese ones (a rare one with fist measurements)Controversial wrote: ↑07 Dec 2019, 08:15I was listening to Bunce the other night and he said it's all a myth, there are plenty of examples where the measurements just don't seem to look right.Boxing Prospect wrote: ↑07 Dec 2019, 08:13

I guess any pros on here can easily confirm.
Where was that changed? I always thought it sounded too tall for Tyson but Larry Merchant said on an 80s HBO telecast that they had checked his height themselves and he really was 5'11 1/2''!Controversial wrote: ↑07 Dec 2019, 09:32 For years Mike Tyson was listed as 5'11 1/2 and then that changed to 5'10", I'm not sure he's even that tall. Tyson isn't that tall, you only have to see him standing next to other people to see that and he normally wears really thick trainers.Tuan_Jim wrote: ↑07 Dec 2019, 09:58Where was that changed? Liston on tape clearly has abnormally long arms. Chuck Wepner who is 6'5'' said it felt like he could stand at the other side of the ring and still that long jab would hit him. There are always going to be mutants.

Ha. Saying that blokes assume women have a magical way of knowing a guys length, I bet if you asked 100 woman to draw a 10 inch line the measurements would differ dramaticallyStuarty wrote: ↑07 Dec 2019, 10:24You sound like my Mrs after i told her i had a 10 incherControversial wrote: ↑07 Dec 2019, 08:15

Same cuz! From the bean to the balloon knot
Tyson was so heavily muscled and generally stocky that it would make him appear shorter than he actually is.Tuan_Jim wrote: ↑07 Dec 2019, 09:58Where was that changed? I'd say he's 5'10" maximum, maybe a tad shorter.Nondescript wrote: ↑07 Dec 2019, 13:37

It's the same as when you get a tallish guy but who is very skinny, it creates the illusion of them being taller than they actually are.
