Golden Boy Promotions just secured the rights to stage the WBC mandatory defense of undisputed middleweight king Bernard Hopkins versus British contender Howard Eastman. Golden Boy won the purse bids process held today in Mexico City offering 4,261,000 US dollars. Eastman's British promoter Mick Hennessy came in second with a 4,001,000 bid. An official date and site for the fight will be announced shortly. (special thanks to Jason Frost)

Excellent news.

Lets hope the fight happens.

This means it IS happening as far as I can tell. Hopkins is part of Golden Boy Promotions...in charge of their east coast operations I think it said in BN.

Or am I missing something...? There may very well be something that trips it up...but I hope not.

It does look good now, the fact GB promotions went for the bid signals that.

Although I fear it won't look good for Eastman the night after the fight.

so this means Eastman gets over a million dollars. That will buy a nice semi in Battersea.

Good news its on, however I can see nothing other than a big Hopkins win most likely by stoppage. I know Eastman has shown a good chin so far but Hopkins is an altogether different proposition to the guys he has faced - and his long periods of inactivity will hurt him.

He'd get it from the TV and gate receipts - he doesnt actually need it right now as the promoter of the Tyson Wiiliams fight proved dramatically.

Eastman is a good fighter and will hold his own against Hopkins but i don't think he will win.

Knowing Sky and the BBC.... neither

Sky generally show Hopkins fights (past 3 if i recall, could be more), BBC used to show Eastmans fights...

Don't know what channel i'd prefer it to be on... BBC would show it late Sunday night/early monday morning.. Sky would either throw it on PPV or show it on the Sunday morning.

Knowing Sky (assuming there are decent fights on the undercard) they will try to make a PPV out of it

Good to see another promoter securing a massive fight.
Although we saw Brode-Chi, Wood-Johnson as 2 non FW fights for real belts this year, I reckon this is a bigger fight than those 2.
Is this Mick's biggest deal so far? It must be.

I meant in terms of steering his fighter towards a shot, rather than staging the fight. I can't really see where MH would re-coup $4M unless he planned to stage it in the US, but I suppose he's must have done his maths. Eastman and Hennessy still make a packet though IMO.

Only now someone (especially GBP) have secured the fight do I get a 50% feeling that this fight will go ahead.

At the risk of sounding like a complete fool, which is not knew for me What is the deal with Eastman? Is Hennessy his promoter? Is it Don king who owns him? Who won the purse bids, who bid on Eastman's behalf? Lol i am starting to get seriously confused, can we get it all in the open please? Thanks!! 8)

so the bid is just over 2 million quid. As mandatory Eastman is due 40%.... 800k...... not a bad nights work....

incidently Howard hasnt lived in Battersea for years as far as i am aware.

he lives in Bermondsey I think, although I am not 100 percent sure
