Arum says he’s going to have a talk with Al Haymon about matching up their welterweights.

On Crawford asserting that there’s no ‘wrong side of the street’ and that any fight can be made if both fighters want it:

“That is absolutely correct. When we had a meeting with Al (Haymon) on this fight, Fury and Wilder, I threw out the fact — this was before the accident — let’s also discuss Terence and Errol Spence, and he said ‘fine, that’s a good fight for next year,’ meaning 2020. And then Errol Spence had that accident and he’s not, I think, gonna be around for a while.

“So when you look at who Al has in the welterweight, the only one of interest that people would — for me, I learned one thing, that a fight really doesn’t sell unless it’s close to 50/50. The guys who will tell you if a fight will sell are the bookmakers. If they make a fight 50/50, 6/5, 7/5, then you know you got something...

“Now I think Porter and Crawford will be in that margin, 8/5 or something like that. So that would be an interesting fight. Danny Garcia with Terence Crawford is about a 5/1 fight, so that’s not as interesting to me as a Porter fight.”

On if he thinks a Crawford-Porter fight can happen in the coming year:

“I’m gonna talk to Al about that. I think at first, they’re very good friends, so they were talking about not fighting each other. Now apparently they’re talking about they would fight each other. So now we’ll see if we can make that match.”

Hopefully it happens.. If not Spence, why not Porter..

Porter has a good WW resume, only lost to Thurman and Spence and Brook.

Has beaten some good names too, including Danny Garcia..

Who else is there for him to fight really? Pacman?

Paywise, this would be a good one for him.

Agree, would love Crawford vs Porter. Would make a good match up, and Porter ain't no dodger. Tought he looked awesome against Spence. No loss that make him look bad, more made Spence work hard for the W.

Cracking fight in prospect.

Porter against any top guy is a cracking fight.

Porter always brings it and anyone who faces him will have to be at their best and will have to earn their money.

Normally this would be more frustrating, but given Spence's car accident it's alright.

This does seem the trend in Boxing.

2 big stars fight guys. Rather than the 2 big stars fighting each other, the 2 big stars are gonna beat up the same guys underneath them for a long time. Ideally trying to make more people care about the big stars. It might would work if everything didn't take 2 years to happen in this sport.

Shawn Porter ‘given green light’ for fight with Terence Crawford

Crawford-Porter might be a reality for 2020.

Since Terence Crawford’s Dec. 14 win over Egidijus Kavaliauskas, there has been a lot of talk about a possible fight between Top Rank’s Crawford and PBC’s Shawn Porter for 2020, and ESPN Ringside is reporting that there has been at least some movement on that.

Shawn’s father and trainer Kenny Porter told Steve Kim that their side has “been given the green light” to make a deal with WBO welterweight titleholder Crawford.

Crawford (37-0, 26 KO) spent 2019 stuck somewhat in limbo, beating Amir Khan and Kavaliauskas in a pair of fights. The Khan fight created buzz for all the wrong reasons, as the fact it was on pay-per-view was ridiculed, and then Khan quitting was a big story. The Kavaliauskas fight wound up being good entertainment for the fans, but the Lithuanian wasn’t seen as a threat and it was a tough sell ahead of time, even back on regular ESPN.

Why does Crawford seem to drag his feet at the thought of fighting Brook, who has publicly called him out? He fought Khan ffs. Brook beat Porter, so he would be at least a better fight than Khan.

Nothing to bitch about. I would love to see Porter vs Crawford, but think their friendship will prevent it, much like it did for Crawford vs Bradley.

Brook hinted at making 147 for the fight, and Crawford has hinted at moving up. Brook isn't what he once was, but still better than what Crawford has been fighting. Catchweight, whatever, I just want to see good fights.

The fact that Crawford chose Khan over Danny Garcia gives me something to bitch about.

Don’t get your hopes up. I saw videos of Kenny and Shawn Porter refuting those claims, explaining that they haven’t received an offer nor communicated Top Rank.

I’ve also seen Crawford himself confirming that his side haven’t discussed a potential bout with Team Porter.

Look, I really do want to be proven wrong about this, because I want to see these guys fight, but I believe the bout won’t happen.

I feel that discussions actually have to take place in order for agreements to be made. And the proverbial horses mouths appear to confirm that the handlers of Crawford and Porter haven’t even communicated with each other.

Hopefully it happens and we'll finally see Crawford vs a proved top opponent of this weight.

They are good friends. But even good friends have fought in the past.

This video is three days old and clearly illustrates my reasoning as to why we're unlikely to see Crawford face Porter anytime soon:

I hope I'm wrong, but what other conclusion can you possibly draw when the proverbial horse's mouths clearly convey the total lack of communication between the handlers of Crawford and Porter? :-?

I think Crawford needs to push for the fight after complaining about no PBC guys willing to fight him. Take care of business and give the fans what they want to see. If he beats Porter it will make the Spence fight huge. $$$
If the fight doesn't happen its 100% on him and Porter, not TR or PBC, and he needs to quit complaining.

Danny Garcia is now Crawford's Mandatory https://www.wboboxing.com/wp-content/themes/wbo/pdf.php

Also Vergil Ortiz said he would fight Crawford and is ranked #3, Ugas will fight anyone and many thought He beat Porter.

I would be fine with any of the three, but don't hold breath on Bud vs Porter. Maybe Thurman when he gets his hand healed? Hurry up though before he gets injured again.

He does.🤯

I don't know how old he is, but he's old enough to have a son in their 30s, so he's ageing nicely.

What are chances it happens now that it’s been ordered?

Top Rank and Terence Crawford definitely don’t want the Shawn Porter fight.

Instead, they were desperately hoping to face a blown-up junior welterweight, such as Regis Prograis, Jose Ramirez or Jose Zepeda on the 23rd October.

Top Rank was even considering Josesito Lopez, another fighter who’s natural habitat (or optimal fighting weight) is 140lbs.

However, it seems the WBO have forced Top Rank and Terence Crawford’s hands, compelling them to make the Shawn Porter bout, or be stripped of the title!

If the fight goes to purse bids, expect Top Rank to submit a lowball offer, with the clear expectation that it will result in Fox or Showtime, in conjunction with the PBC, covering the bout.

The problem with purse bids, however, is that Porter would have to accept 25% (as per the WBO's rules), but he clearly deserves more than that, based on his viewing figures, which are comparable with Crawford's.

This could be a major stumbling block. We've previously seen fighters like Dillian Whyte, Jarrell Miller and Michael Hunter remove themselves from officially ordered bouts, because of the terms dictated by the purse bids.

For Porter to earn more than $2m, Crawford would have to be paid at least $6m (as per the WBO’s 75-25 champion-challenger purse split rule).

And Crawford-Porter isn't an $8m to $10m fight, coupled with the fact Bud's guaranteed minimum purse with Top Rank is around the $4m mark.

So I have my doubts as to whether the fight even gets made, unless DAZN are willing to fund the event, by outbidding the PBC and Top Rank.

One thing for sure, if Crawford fought and beat Porter, it would help him a lot in negotiating a fight with Spence. He may not want to risk a loss though.

If Crawford beats Porter, it'll be his career-best opponent. It's a fight he could potentially lose.

Some people might disagree and reasonably claim that Viktor Postol or Yuriorkis Gamboa are Crawford's career highlights, but those bouts are ancient history (the former happened five years ago, with the latter taking place seven years ago).

There's one thing that most fight fans will almost certainly agree with though, is that Shawn Porter would definitely be the best opponent he's faced at 147lbs... and we're we're talking about a timespan exceeding four years.
