Scott Harrison might not be fighting Frankie Archuleta next month in Glasgow, no opponent has been selected for Harrison yet, but the decision should be made sometime this week.

So, seeing all the top Featherweights are tied up fighting each other..who do you think would be a good opponent for Scott in his next bout?

Archuletta is probably the best available contendor ranked in the top 15 by the WBO. Other options that would maybe be worthwhile:

Spend Abazi (WBO #5)
Gary St. Clair (WBO #4)
Derrick Gainer (unranked)
Jorge Lacierva (unranked)


Although, I have a feeling if Archuletta isn't the guy, Priest Smalls (WBO #8 ) will be.

The WBO top 15 doesn't look very good. Since Smalls was being mentioned as a replacement for Kebede last time, I wouldn't be surprised if they have him in mind as a backup for Archuletta.

The WBO top 15 doesn't look very good. Since Smalls was being mentioned as a replacement for Kebede last time, I wouldn't be surprised if they have him in mind as a backup for Archuletta.

I just couldn't get up for a fight like that, i think Sports Network would have to give tickets away for nothing if they where expecting a big crowd to show up for that bout!

Hopefully he does, and Harrison could fight Derrick Gainer. I think a lot of people would pick Gainer to beat Harrison if they met, because of his tricky style. But i think Harrison would KO him to be honest, it would be a good fight on paper though and one i'd like to see.

Hasn't Gainer been out for over a year?

AMERICAN boxer Frankie Archuleta has been confirmed as Scott Harrison’s next opponent in defence of his WBO featherweight title at Braehead arena on 28 January.

The choice of Archuleta by Sports Network, who promote Harrison, may disappoint some of the champion’s fans who were hoping to see a "name" fighter in action against the 27-year-old Glaswegian, but it is worth noting that former world champion Johnny Tapia features on the Las Vegas born fighter’s record.

Archuleta, in fact, won a split points decision against the veteran Tapia in March this year. In his most recent contest, the challenger was given a unanimous verdict against Jesus Perez last month, although he has lost two of his past six fights.

Archuleta is world ranked 46th, while Harrison is in third place.

The Scot required just 59 seconds to dispose of Samuel Kebede in his last contest.

Ironic isn't it. Harrison's opponents before he became world champ were of higher quality by and large than the ones since he became world champ.

Poor fight. SN can't make decent matches any more. End of story.

Offer the WBO superbamtam champ Joan Guzman a chance to move up and fight for a title. Guzman would beat his ass.

The champions fans should not attend then - the only way to send a message out to Sports Network about their shit matchups is not too attend.

I dont go for the 'why deprive myself of going to boxing' attitude as thats whats fuelling these crap matches.

If nobody turns up they make no money get the message and we get more interesting fights.

I cant recall the last time a Sports Network fighter (world champ or world rated) fought in a fight even close to 50-50.

Try these ones for Harison Medina2 or Abelyan?
Calzaghe, Mitchell?
Hatton Tackie or Magee? (going back a bit I know)
Danny Williams was underdog against both Tyson and Vitali

What about Paddy Folan? It would be a step up from Kedebe.

Harrison v Medina II was definetly no certainty, and still turned into a hard fight in the mid rounds.

I think they knew Abelyan was past his best.

I think Hatton v Tackie was 60-40 in Hatton's favour, they knew they had the beating of him.

Magee was a pretty tightly matched fight. I think Hatton's people took him a little lightly, judging by Hatton's post fight comments.

Hatton has never been in a 50-50 fight. Calzaghe v Mitchell and Harrison v Medina are the only 2 I would consider.

When you think thats the only close matchups those three have had in a long time thats sad.

Harrison's fights with Chacon, McCullough, and Medina(the second time) were all 50-50 fights IMO. Although it turned out to be a very one sided fight, i remember MANY people said before the Harrison-McCullough fight that Scott wouldn't be able to deal with Wayne's workrate and he would lose on points to the more experienced fighter.

I guess what I'm speculating on is how much SN are short changing fans with their matches. EVERY world title fight should be competitive nonsense to all this "he deserves an easy night" in that case Mr Maloney halve the ticket prices.....??

Abelyan was a good fighter. He beat the undefeated Don King prospect Shamir Reyes, Orlando Salido, and a prime Guty Espadas. Abelyan beat Guty only 6 months after he had lost a controversial decision, and his WBC title to Erik Morales.

Abelyan won every round against Espadas and floored him twice, and i read Abelyan took the fight at only 4 days notice too! Of Course im not saying Abelyan is better than Morales or anything stupid like that...but he's not a bum.

Also i wouldnt look to heavily in to early career defeats, my favourite fighter Alexis Arguello was also knocked out in 1 round early in his career, and just look what he went on to do.

Despite final negotiations still untied, and an unsigned contract, the manager of WBO Featherweight champion Scott Harrison, Frank Maloney, is calling Frankie Archuleta an easy win. "This looks very much like the easy day at the office," he has told Scottish media, saying Archuleta is the easy tune-up Harrison deserves. If the contract is signed and final negotiations are complete, Archuleta will take on the champ on January 28 at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.
