Unbeaten three-division champ Kosei Tanaka (15-0, 9 KOs), 112, impressively retained his WBO flyweight belt when he beautifully flattened China’s Wulan Tuolehazi (13-4-1, 6 KOs), 112, with a single uppercut at 2:29 of the third round on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan.

Tanaka, making his third defense in his third reign as a 112-pounder, maintained the pressure from the outset and kept jabbing against the cautious Chinese challenger.

Being in command in the first two rounds with his aggressiveness, Tanaka, in round three, turned loose and connected with a lethal uppercut, which had Wulan flattened on the deck.

Jose Rivera, Puerto Rico, tolled the fatal ten over the fallen loser.

Wulan sounds like some dude who would be in Mulan or something. Maybe her brother. Or some evil Chinese prince trying to steal her away from strong benevolent white man John Smith

The knockout was beautiful. Tanaka is a handful.

Tanaka reminds me of Myung Woo Yuh, albeit less defensively responsible.

No one’s talking about Ioka, who defended his title against a difficult, world class opponent in a hard fight?

Is Tanaka going to challenge Ioka? Or is Ioka moving on to unification with one of his counterparts like Ancajas?

Tanaka v Ioka would probably be a classic on par with eg Ioka v Yaegashi. But I wonder if they’ll take separate paths.

I'm hoping Ken Shiro moves up to fight Tanaka.

Earlier today Ioka stated he wanted Estrada next
Tanaka is open to moving up to 115 but doesn't seem to be in a rush

Not happening any time soon, Kenshiro Teraji has made it clear he wants to set a Japanese title defenses record at 108

great that Ioka wants to fight Estrada. That will be a quality technical fight and also very intense and punishing.

so glad Ioka came out of retirement. such a good run he's on. always liked him, for his quality and hard wins over: Alvarado (still a top junior flyweight), Yaegashi (FOTY candidate), the two with Reveco & the defeat to Nietes which was very hard to score and quality throughout. always thought he'd be the one to compete with Roman Gonzalez, during his reign of terror through the tiny weight classes.

just read that Ioka's downplaying the opportunity for a Japanese mega fight with Tanaka. roll on unification.

Shoot, yeah, I forgot that Ioka had a fight.
