Scott Cardle Retires

Scott Cardle has announced his retirement at the age of 30.
The man from Lytham St Anne’s had a successful stint in both the amateur and paid codes of the sport of boxing.
Cardle was the British lightweight champion for two years, beating Craig Evans to take the crown in 2015 and defending his title three times.
He began boxing at the age of 11, winning national schoolboy titles and becoming a three-time national junior champion.
“Trying to stay active in the most inactive year of my past 20-plus years has been difficult and trying to get a comeback fight from my last defeat has been even harder,” Cardle, who also claimed the Central Area and English titles during his professional career, wrote when revealing the news. “For that reason, it breaks my heart to announce my retirement.
“I was hoping for one last meaningful farewell to the game but there’s more to life than boxing and my health is more important.”
Cardle, who issued a series of thanks on social media when confirming his decision, leaves the sport with a record of 23-3-1 (7).
“I am forever grateful to the sport of boxing for the man it has made me and my life experiences. Boxing will always be a massive part of my identity and I believe the sacrifices I have made [to the sport] since
a schoolboy have been worthwhile.
“I plan to stay close to the sport and hopefully in the future I can have a gym of my own and make an impact on kids the way I was impacted on as a young man.”

Just as well. Thought he started sounding a bit punchy a couple years back. Got a couple of dodgy decisions in his career as the home fighter but can be happy with what he achieved. Was never a fan but all the best to him

A good decision imo. He had a decent career to be fair and best of luck to him for the future

Better fighters have never won the British title, so well done Scotty Cardle. Overachieved in the toughest sport of all....hats off to you.

Never a fan. Loved it when he acted the prick at the Ritson weigh in and then got poled axed by him. I remember speaking with Hearn at a show when he was on 2 defences of his British and needed 1 more to win it outright....i asked him went he didn't make cardle v Campbell......he said he tried but cardles side would not accept the fight until he had won it outright against someone easier, so I was very happy when this plan backfired and Barrett beat him.

Aye i enjoyed that myself! He was a bit of an arrogant twat as well. Fought with a Celtic badge on his shorts and came in to the ring to a Celtic song so i couldn't stand him from the off

Burns and Harrison were both Celtic fans and i was a massive fan of both but i could never stick Cardle...

Right decision to retire, his face was opening up more often that Katie Price's gash.
He looked spent 2 years ago to be honest. Like others have said he didn't help himself too much with how he went about his business but for it to be all over at just 30 -It shows how tough the sport of boxing is.
