Nothing will ever beat Adam Smith’s assurance that the word ‘Bomber’ on Bellew’s shorts was, in fact, not a reference to the Islamist terrorist attack carried out in Manchester about 6 months beforehand.

yes that was an absolute classic. and there was me before Bellew fought Haye hating him as i thought he had carried out the bombing!

Harry Carpenter after Kevin Finnegan had given Alan Minter hell for 8 rounds finally admitting that Finnegan might be about to figure in the bout. Carpenter's dislike of Finnegan was well known and he gave a totally biased commentary to that effect. This was back in the days when there was only one channel showing the bout so everybody in the UK had no choice but to listen to his prejudices. We don't realize how lucky we are these days.

There were a couple belters in the Fenech v Grove fight, can’t remember them both but one was the Aussie commentator likening Grove to like “a piece of liquorice with boxing gloves on”

Why did Carpenter dislike Finnegan? I know that Kevin played up at Wembley when his brother Chris was robbed of the ABA middleweight title against Allan Ball in 1967, jumping into the ring adorned in a blonde wig but I've never heard that Carpenter disliked Kevin, although it is a bit before my time.

The sky interviewer who asked George Groves if he was interested in a match with Amir Khan. The look on Groves’ face was priceless.

I would be interested why he didn’t like him - I maybe have a romantic image of Harry and was surprised to read this
The blonde wig story also sounds interesting!

The Aussie commentators are usually very one sided and often say stupid stuff but for me they get away with it because they are just genuinely excited and over enthusiastic.
It often works well.
