Jamal James’ fifth straight fight in his hometown will be more meaningful than the previous four.

BS.com has learned that James will battle Thomas Dulorme for the WBA’s interim welterweight title April 11 at The Armory in Minneapolis. James has won four fights in a row at The Armory dating back to April 2018.

FOX is expected to televise James-Dulorme as the main event of a multi-bout broadcast.

James (26-1, 12 KOs) and Dulorme (25-3-1, 16 KOs), a Las Vegas resident raised in Puerto Rico, each will fight for a welterweight title for the first time. Dulorme lost to Terence Crawford by sixth-round technical knockout when they fought for the WBO junior welterweight title in April 2015 at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

James, 31, is ranked number five among the WBA’s welterweight contenders. Dulorme, 29, is rated 10th by the WBA.

It isn’t clear why the WBA would sanction James-Dulorme as a fight for its interim 147-pound championship. Neither fighter is due a title shot and the WBA already had two 147-pound champions when it agreed to sanction James-Dulorme as a fight for its interim welterweight title.

The Philippines’ Manny Pacquiao is the WBA’s “super” welterweight champion after defeating previously unbeaten Keith Thurman by split decision July 20 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Russia’s Alexander Besputin won the WBA’s “world” welterweight title in his last fight, but according to The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger, Besputin tested positive for a banned substance following his 12-round, unanimous-decision defeat of Radzhab Butaev on November 30 at Casino de Monte Carlo in Monte Carlo.

American Vergil Ortiz owns the WBA’s lesser “gold” welterweight title as well.

James has won six straight fights since suffering his only professional loss, a 10-round unanimous decision to Cuban contender Yordenis Ugas in August 2016 at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. Dulorme lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Ugas, too, but their fight was much more competitive on the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor undercard in August 2017 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Since losing to Ugas, Dulorme has boxed Jessie Vargas to a 12-round majority draw and out-pointed Terrel Williams in a 10-rounder September 21 at Rabobank Theater in Bakersfield, California.

Press Release

Top welterweight and Minneapolis native Jamal "Shango" James will face former title challenger Thomas Dulorme for the Interim WBA Welterweight Title in the FOX PBC Fight Night main event and on FOX Deportes Saturday, April 11 as James returns to The Armory in Minneapolis for his fifth-straight fight.

FOX PBC Fight Night begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and features Minneapolis-based Cuban sensation David Morrell Jr. stepping up in his third pro fight to face unbeaten Lennox Allen in an Interim WBA Super Middleweight Title match as the co-main event. Super welterweight sensation Joey "Small Town Solider" Spencer will open the televised broadcast in a special attraction.

"We can't wait to be back at The Armory in Minneapolis to see the city's homegrown star Jamal James in another exciting fight in front of his hometown fans," said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. "He'll look to further prove his status as an elite welterweight against the very dangerous Thomas Dulorme and capture an interim title in the main event. Cuban phenom David Morrell Jr., now based in Minneapolis, will make this an even more high-stakes night for the city's boxing scene, as he fights for an interim title in just his third pro fight against tough unbeaten Lennox Allen. Combined with sensational prospect Joey Spencer continuing his rise in the televised opener, April 11 is shaping up to be a jam packed night of action."

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Warriors Boxing, are on sale now and can be purchased at the Armory at http://ArmoryMN.com/ and through Ticketmaster.

James (26-1, 12 KOs) has become a local favorite, packing The Armory and most recently thrilled his hometown crowd in July with an exciting decision victory over former champion Antonio DeMarco in an FS1 main event. The 31-year-old has rolled off six consecutive victories since suffering his only defeat in a unanimous decision loss to Yordenis Ugás in 2016. James has compiled three knockouts in his current win streak while defeating the likes of Diego Gabriel Chaves, Abel Ramos and Jo Jo Dan.

"I'm extremely excited and honored to have my fifth fight back at home at The Armory," said James. "We've created an empire with Minnesota boxing and being able to have these big fights at home is a huge blessing. Being the main event fighting top competitors at home and on FOX, it's going to show Minnesota boxing to the nation. I'm extremely motivated and focused for this fight. I'm always training to my fullest, but we're going extra hard for this fight."

The 30-year-old Dulorme (25-3-1, 16 KOs) most recently defeated then unbeaten Terrel Williams in September, winning a unanimous decision after his previous contest had seen him fight to majority draw against two-division champion Jessie Vargas in 2018. Born in Marigot, Guadeloupe but fighting out of and representing Carolina, Puerto Rico, Dulorme rebounded from a loss to Terence Crawford for a 140-pound title by scoring back-to-back knockouts, leading up to a narrow decision loss to top welterweight Yordenis Ugás in 2017 on FOX.

"I am very excited to get a chance to fight for a title again," said Dulorme. "I had a chance before, but this time I won't let the opportunity slip away. James is a good fighter and I'm sure he will be motivated fighting in his hometown. I respect him, but I feel like I am in the prime of my career and it will show when I step in the ring."

Morrell (2-0, 2 KOs) arrived in the U.S. last year and immediately began to show the same prodigious talents that made him a standout in Cuba's iconic amateur scene. Now fighting out of Minneapolis, Morrell made his pro debut at The Armory in August, with a TKO victory in the first round. The 22-year-old followed that up in November on FS1, knocking out an opponent in Quinton Rankin who entered the fight with a 15-6-2 record and had most recently gone the distance with former champion Chad Dawson five months before facing Morrell.

"I'm very thankful to my team and excited for this great opportunity," said Morrell. "I feel strong in training camp and I'm not underestimating Allen at all. I'm focused on getting one step closer to winning a world title for my family and fans in Cuba. I can't wait to perform in front of my new family and friends in Minnesota and give them a great show on April 11."

Born in Guyana, Allen (22-0-1, 14 KOs) turned pro in 2004 and has fought out of New York since 2010. He's won 10 consecutive fights since a 2010 draw against Darnell Boone, including a 12-round decision victory over Kwesi Jones, a knockout of then once-beaten Kojo Issah and most recently a 10-round decision victory over Derrick Webster in February 2019. April 11 will make Allen's second-straight fight in Minnesota, as his triumph over Webster took place in Hinckley.

"Training camp is going great right now and I'm really excited for this fight on April 11," said Allen. "I know that Morrell sees me as a step in his career, but that's exactly how I see him as well. I've worked hard to get one step away from the top and I'm planning on taking that step in this fight. We both have good technical skills, but I think I'm going to have to be the one to press the fight and take it to him. I'm thankful to have this opportunity to fight on FOX and after my performance I'm looking forward to fighting on this stage a lot more."

The 19-year-old Spencer (10-0, 7 KOs) has made fast strides since turning pro in February 2018, including four victories on his 2019 campaign. Representing his hometown of Linden, Michigan, Spencer kicked off 2020 by scoring a unanimous decision against Erik Spring on January 18 on FS1. He also stopped Travis Gambardella on FS1 in September after defeating Akeem Black on FOX in June.

Premier Boxing Champions announced today that all “scheduled events for March and April have been cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later date.”

That’s admittedly a bit of a dramatic way to say “two more events are canceled;” aside from Nery on the 28th, the only casualties are the April 11th Jamal James-Thomas Dulorme PBC on FOX show and Showtime’s April 18th David Benavidez vs. Roamer Alexis Angulo-led tripleheader.

Premier Boxing Champions will return to FOX on July 25 with a main event that was postponed at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Boxing Scene has learned that welterweights Thomas Dulorme and Jamal James will meet that night in a 12-round fight for a vacant version of the WBA welterweight title. FOX is expected to televise the Dulorme-James match from a studio setting in the Los Angeles area, though the site hadn’t been solidified as of Friday.

Dulorme-James would be FOX’s first main event on free TV since Robert Helenius upset previously unbeaten heavyweight contender Adam Kownacki by fourth-round technical knockout March 7 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The welterweight contenders were supposed to headline a “FOX PBC Fight Night” broadcast April 11 from The Armory in Minneapolis, James’ hometown. The rescheduled James-Dulorme fight will not take place at that venue because coronavirus restrictions would prevent fans from attending.

James is training in Minneapolis. Dulorme is preparing for their fight in Indio, California.

The 31-year-old James (26-1, 12 KOs) and the 30-year-old Dulorme (25-3-1, 16 KOs), a Las Vegas resident raised in Puerto Rico, are expected to fight for the WBA’s interim 147-pound championship. The Philippines’ Manny Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KOs), who owns the WBA’s “super” welterweight title, is considered that sanctioning organization’s true champion in that division.

Russia’s Alexander Besputin (14-0, 9 KOs) won the WBA’s “world” welterweight title in his last fight, but he tested positive for a banned substance following his 12-round, unanimous-decision defeat of Russia’s Radzhab Butaev (12-1, 9 KOs) on November 30 at Casino de Monte Carlo in Monte Carlo. Besputin’s status as a champion is under review, according to the WBA.

James, meanwhile, will take a six-fight winning streak into his fight with Dulorme. The only loss of James’ 10-year pro career was a 10-round, unanimous-decision defeat to top contender Yordenis Ugas (25-4, 12 KOs) in August 2016.

Dulorme will fight for a world title for the second time in 11 years as a pro. Terence Crawford (36-0, 27 KOs), a three-division champion who currently holds the WBO welterweight title, stopped Dulorme in the sixth round of their fight for Crawford’s WBO junior welterweight crown in April 2015.

Dulorme-James FOX Show Pushed Back From 7/25 To 8/8

Thomas Dulorme and Jamal James will have to wait two more weeks to finally fight.

Their welterweight title bout, which had already been postponed from April 11 to July 25 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has been pushed back two additional weeks. Dulorme and James will now headline a “FOX PBC Fight Night” broadcast August 8.

The card featuring Dulorme and James still is expected to take place in a studio setting in the Los Angeles area because fans cannot attend sporting events in the United States.

ESPN.com’s Steve Kim first reported that the FOX show was moving back two weeks.

FOX’s coverage of Major League Baseball caused this postponement. The network will air MLB games on the Saturday nights of July 25 and August 1.

Due mostly to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dulorme-James will be FOX’s first main event on free TV since Robert Helenius upset previously unbeaten heavyweight contender Adam Kownacki by fourth-round technical knockout March 7 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Dulorme (25-3-1, 16 KOs), a Las Vegas resident raised in Puerto Rico, and James (26-1, 12 KOs) initially were scheduled to headline a FOX telecast nearly three months ago from The Armory in Minneapolis, James’ hometown. The rescheduled James-Dulorme card has been moved to another venue because coronavirus restrictions would prevent a crowd from assembling for what would’ve been James’ fifth consecutive hometown fight.

They’ll still fight for the WBA’s interim 147-pound championship. The Philippines’ Manny Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KOs), who owns the WBA’s “super” welterweight title, is considered that sanctioning organization’s legitimate champion in that division.

The WBA since has ordered a bout between Yordenis Ugas (25-4, 12 KOs) and Abel Ramos Jr. (26-3-2, 20 KOs) for the title that was stripped from Besputin during its annual convention last weekend.

The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger reported Monday night that the original co-feature for FOX’s Dulorme-James broadcast will remain part of the telecast August 8. That super middleweight match will pit 22-year-old Cuban prospect David Morrell (2-0, 2 KOs) against Guyana’s Lennox Allen (22-0-1, 14 KOs).

Will Morrell vs. Allen still be for the WBA's interim super middleweight title, as announced several months ago? Dulorme vs. James will be for the interim welterweight title, whereas Yordenis Ugas and Abel Ramos will battle it out some time for the vacant regular title, with the winner having to face Butaev next...

Showtime Card 8/1 At Mohegan Sun; FOX Show 8/8 At Microsoft Theater In LA

The sites are set for Premier Boxing Champions’ cards early in August.

Boxing Scene has confirmed that Showtime’s telecast August 1 will air from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Showtime will televise numerous “Showtime Championship Boxing” cards from Mohegan Sun over the subsequent several months.

MMAfighting.com first reported Wednesday night that the “Showtime Championship Boxing” broadcast August 1 will follow a Bellator MMA telecast from Mohegan Sun Arena on July 24. Showtime and Bellator are owned by ViacomCBS, also the parent company of Boxing Scene.

Before selecting Mohegan Sun as its temporary home base, Showtime Sports’ Stephen Espinoza considered broadcasting the premium cable network’s upcoming boxing shows from a ViacomCBS soundstage in Studio City, California.

Boxing Scene also has learned that the “FOX PBC Fight Night” broadcast scheduled for August 8 will take place at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. FOX is expected to televise several “FOX PBC Fight Night” shows from Microsoft Theater thereafter.

Fans cannot attend the August 1 and August 8 cards due to COVID-19 restrictions.

FOX’s show August 8 will be headlined by Las Vegas’ Thomas Dulorme (25-3-1, 16 KOs) and Minneapolis’ Jamal James (26-1, 12 KOs) in a 12-round fight for the WBA’s interim welterweight title. The co-feature of FOX’s broadcast that night will pit 22-year-old Cuban prospect David Morrell (2-0, 2 KOs) against Guyana’s Lennox Allen (22-0-1, 14 KOs) in a 10-round super middleweight match.

FOX’s first boxing broadcast since March 7 was supposed to air July 25, but it was pushed back two weeks to accommodate FOX’s commitment to air Major League Baseball games July 25 and August 1. Showtime’s first boxing telecast since March 13 tentatively was scheduled for July 18, but it also was delayed two weeks.

The main event of Showtime’s August 1 show likely will match Mexico’s Luis Nery (30-0, 24 KOs) against countryman Aaron Alameda (25-0, 13 KOs) in a 12-round, 122-pound bout. Nery, a former WBC bantamweight champ, and Alameda were scheduled to headline Showtime’s March 28 broadcast from Park MGM in Las Vegas.

That March 28 show was scrapped due to the coronavirus crisis, as was FOX’s April 11 broadcast, which was to feature Dulorme-James from The Armory in Minneapolis.

Stevenson did less than 500k on ESPN. The first boxing card after months that was on tv.

FOX is available in many more homes..

These 2 aren’t the best names in the world of boxing.. has Fox hyped this? Advertised well?

Thanks for this thread. I legit would've missed this card if not for this thread. I forget to even look for Boxing on my local Fox channel as it so seldom happens, and I generally make a habit of searching all over for any and all possible Boxing coverage.
