What is your view on Makhmudov, the Canadian based Russian HW?

Certainly is really heavy handed, is big and does have some pedigree. Albeit rather slow footed.

Can he make an impact at HW?

It's tough to judge until he faces someone decent.

I don't think he is that special. If he was, promoters are smart and gave him a deal before he shine.

You have to ask yourself why he is still in Canada and who is managing him !!

He is a pure beast.

He can be a contender but looks like may be a bit limited for the top guys. Still, a fun guy to follow.

No fights for the last 4 months and nothing scheduled, a 31 year old prospect with 10 fights should be more active. He's fought 1 round in the last 6 months

Just saw he's just signed a co-promotional deal with Golden Boy, hopefully that helps him get more dates

Here's my answer, his opponents at any level better be able to avoid his punches to beat him because he hits that hard. His accuracy is good. His chin was solid as an amateur.

Tall slow heavy handed destroyer.
Will make an impact!

I’ve just checked his fights on You Tube. His movement different but he does have some similarities to Vitali Klitschko. One to watch I think.

If he gets a shot

His accuracy’s ridiculous top ten contenders will swerve that one

Well, when you look at how many old men Joshua and Wilder fought, who's to say they are wrong?

While a lower weight fight might burn out in his lower 30's, heavyweights can last a long time.

Some fighters will still be effective at 40 but you can't rely on the fact you're going to be one of them can you.?

While heavies tend to mature later than the little guys, some are still done by their early thirties or even younger, eh Mike?

If you don't have a big USA or Uk promoter like Bob Arum, Eddie Hearn, etc. It can be very difficult to get dates. Seems to be the normal now for any prospects not with big promoters to be only fighting 2-4 times a year.

A lot of these old guys getting shots were decently busy back in their younger days and/or stepped up much faster, Ya a guy like Pulev is old and stale now, but he had a very ambitious early career. They fought themselves up to contender status. Mak on the other hand is like 31 this year and only has 1 round in the last 6 months and that will surely extend to at last 10 months I'd think at minimum. He hasn't built himself up to a level where he can just coast off of stay busy fights and still get the major opportunities.

On the bright side, he did just sign that golden boy deal, so hopefully that will help him get more dates and/or better opposition when boxing is back

Yeah that's a fair point which is why Hrgovic is with Matchroom of course. These guys from the east need to get on their bikes and be a bit creative if they want to progress. At least that's a possibility for the top amateurs with big reputations, whereas talented youngsters who aren't so well known don't necessarily have that avenue so readily available.

Then you have a situation where it's not financially viable to bring in someone with the skills to give you experience so you end up fighting a series of totally overmatched local cabbies, sometimes more than once. Then you have record of 27 and 0 and they put you in with someone who used to be a bit tasty and you get totally destroyed and the reality check is crushing. I'm thinking of someone like Arnold Gjerjaj. Yeah I get it it's a tough old world if you're not from where it's at..

He actually reminds me a lot of early 2000's Ukrainian HW Volodymyr Virchis.

Both big, strong, and heavy handed but with slow feet and hands.

Virchis had a good run, but being wasted while he fought a slick boxer in Gomez wasn't the best idea. If Makhmudov takes boxing seriously he can be a contender in this pishpoor era.

If his power carries to the next echelon and his chin doesn't suck he should be able to win most firefights against the garbage contenders around today. There aren't many slick boxers like Gomez around so being slower might not be as big of a detriment as it would have been a few years ago.
