ANTHONY FARNELL - Our best wishes go to the WARRIOR in his choice to retire after the annual MRI scan required by the medical people at the Boxing Board had shown a change for the second year running. Anthony has only been with Oliver Harrison for 18 months , but during this time we could see the dedication and determination that has been a great help towards making the success out of boxing that he had. Lets hope that when he trains kids in the future that he can install this desire into them - we hope to work together in the future.

I hope he is okay and can cope. Always gives me the impression that boxing is all he knows. I hope he can install that determination and desire into the kids.

I hope he is healthy and wish him well in the upcoming years.

He has had his critics, but was always a value for money fighter and a good little domestic fighter.

Thank God for medical advances that can forewarn future possible tragedies.

I was never a big Farnell fan but I wish him a healthy and happy life without the gloves. Hopefully he has invested his ring earnings wisely and can adjust to like outside the ring.

likewise, not a fan, but hope he has no problems to adjusting to life post boxing.

26yrs old leaves an awful lot of time to fester if you don't have something else to occupy body and soul. I hope the sport can still use someone of his undoubted enthusiasm

Never been a fan of his, best of luck to him though and brave decision by him to get out now lets hope he sticks to it. Makes a mockery of Mesi who is still trying to fight on with actual damage to the brain.

I think I seem to be in the minority here in as much as I always had a bit of a liking for Farnell. I kow he could come across as an arse at times and he was a mouthy shit but he always strikes ma as a decent dude inderneath it.


that said Im glad hes retired. Probably for the best. I think he'd reached his level and would always really just be a fringe contender on the domestic scene. He was never the best in the world, well not outside his own head anyways, but he was a good pro. Honest enough with it too.

Good post, agree entirely.

Didn't like his attitude but hope everything works out ok for him.

Arnie is often misjudged. He's a decent, friendly lad whose abrasive side only comes out in the moments leading upto and immediately after he boxes (be it in the gym or on the night of a fight). Because that part of his persona is the only bit most people get to see, it has caused some to presume he's an aggressive thug 24/7. They've got it wrong, but I can see how they've reached their conclusion.

I hope he does OK as a retired boxer.

I've always respected Farnells passion for boxing and though he was never the best in the world he always gave 100% in the ring... I think he'd have a lot to offer as a trainer and hope he stays in boxing.....
