MTK Global is delighted to announce the opening of MTK Japan; headed by renowned promoter Takashi Edagawa.

The Muto Boxing Gym facility in Osaka originally opened its doors in 2001; producing champions such as world super-flyweight king Nobuo Nashiro and pioneering the country’s early youth tournaments won by the likes of now-unified world champion Naoya Inoue.

As part of the agreement, MTK Global will now advise Edagawa’s impressive list of emerging stars including Yuki Strong Kobayashi, Riku Kunimoto, Akio Furutani, Hirofumi Mukai, Jaya Estremos, Yusuke Mine, Dekanarudo Torio, Ryosuke Nishida, Riku Yamashita and Hibiki Yuasa.

With the facility becoming MTK Global’s 14th location worldwide, CEO Sandra Vaughan is more enthusiastic than ever.

Vaughan said: “This is a very proud day. We are thrilled to have set up shop in Japan and we welcome our good friend Takashi Edagawa to the team. He’s done a great job building Muto Boxing Gym and now its future is even brighter.

“The sport of boxing in Japan has grown exponentially in recent times and with champions like Naoya Inoue providing the wider public with an icon to follow, further momentum is inevitable.

“Together with Takashi and his team, we look forward to harnessing the huge amount of local talent, finding the right paths for existing champions and ensuring we keep unearthing and developing future prospects.”

Edagawa said: “I feel it is my duty to ensure that Japanese athletes have the opportunities to put in great performances across the world and as I join forces with MTK Global, it gives me more confidence of accomplishing that goal.

“I made a world champion in my fourth year in boxing and now I want to build other fighters to show the world that Japanese boxing is strong. I feel it is my duty to make this happen.

“Thank you to MTK Global for giving me this honourable moment in my career.”

Gonna be honest... It's not exactly... The best Japanese stable, my guess is they called Teiken, Ohashi, Kadoebi, Watanabe, World of Sport, Misako, maybe even MT, Hatanaka, and Shinsei, before finally getting to Muto.

They have some decent fighters but no one to wet your pants over.

Tulio Kuwabata got upset in December
Yusuke Mine got dropped twice last time out, talented but serious question marks over his chin
I like what I've seen of Ryosuke Nishida, but untested

Would probably have been the 9th or 10th choice, off the top of my head for Japanese gyms to link up with

MTK are really going all out in boxing

Guess this has fallen apart with Edagawa being convicted of Tax evasion and being suspended by the JBC
