Losing to someone like Ali or Fury doesnt usually mean a life rethinking beating but to Micky Ward its probably pretty bad. So who do you guys think are the worst guys to lose to?

I reckon getting stopped by Kevin McCauley (or even losing to him) would compel any fighter to immediately retire from sport.

He loses to novices and probably does his upmost to avoid getting stopped during the four round contests he typically participates in. He rarely wins a single round.

For example: Michael Williams was undefeated and beat McCauley during his second contest (on points, by a 40-36 margin), but then lost his next seventeen bouts. Williams never won a single bout after beating McCauley.

Don’t get me wrong, the sport of boxing needs journeymen like McCauley and we should respect guys like him for helping educate prospects, but let’s not award him too much kudos for only winning 6% of his 229 bouts.

Guy with more than 1000 pro rounds definitely can fight

Actually, losing to someone like Ali that talks nonstop shit the entire build up and in the fight would be awful. He administered some nasty beatings too.

There was another guy one time that had like 4 wins and 52 losses or something like that, and his 4th win came in his final fight after having lost like 35 or 40 in a row, so that must've really sucked for the guy on the ass end of that loss

Would be someone you had a personal grudge with. Benn losing to Eubank in the first fight, DeGale losing to Groves etc... That's why i think Khan won't fight Brook because he couldn't face it if he lost.

Yeah that's true. This is shown best in the Morales/Barrera rivalry to me. You can see from those two throughout their rivalry that they REALLY f*cking dislike each other intensely (Morales seemed to have an extra amount of vitriol toward Barrera), and the way they fight those fights you can tell they endured things that would've been tough to endure in other fights, but they so desperately would rather lose to ANYBODY but this f*cking guy that they hung in there, bit down and gave it their all every step of the way.

The rivalry still wasn't over after the 3rd bout. Barrera came over to shake his hand and bury the hatchet, and Morales chunked his water bottle at him

Yeah and Duran didn't like much of anybody so whether you had a personal grudge against him going in, you probably didn't like him much by the end of it all. Especially if you were built up as a World Class challenger to him.

One thing I agree with the op about is I'd rather get hit 100 times in the face than a 3 punch combo to the body. Those relentless pressure body punchers like Frazier or Marciano would be misery.

Didn't they apparently fall out playing football (soccer) as youngsters and it went from there or is that just crap? I know Morales disliked Barrera because of the class divide. Morales was from a poor background and Barrera came from a more affluent family and studied law etc... Whatever it was it made for some classic fights

The class divide was always the main thing I knew of that sparked the rivalry. I never heard of any Soccer stories from their youth, but it would be interesting if it were a life-long rivalry that started when they were kids like that.

I'm sure i heard it in the build up to one of their fights but can't be sure...

I'd heard that before, too.

Though I also remember (I think) someone going into it.... The physical distance between the areas that these guys lived in was enough to think it very unlikely that they'd ever have played against each other on a football team. It's like 2000 miles or something. So unless they were on the national team, it sounds like a myth.
