From Carlos Costa - MANILA, Philippines -- WBC's 105 world champion since 2014, Thailand's Wanheng Menayothin (a.k.a. Chayaphon Moonsri), is set to make the 13th defense of his golden & green belt against Filipino challenger WBC # 10 Marco John Rementizo on Saturday, April 25, at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Palm Springs, California.

Fight contracts have already been signed, pending final approval of boxing authorities.

The rumble -- which seems likely to push forward -- will not only be Menayothin's first fight in the U.S., away of his native Thailand; but it is also his effort in extending his pro record to a massive 55-0 for the unbeaten world champion.

Menayothin (a.k.a. Moonsri) 13th title defense against the far less-experienced, 20-year-old Filipino Marco John Rementizo (12-3, 9 KO's), does not seem to be much of a scary job for the crafty Thai veteran, one of the planet's most accomplished and technically sound minimumweight fighters.

The FIlipino Rementizo -- a lefty who hails from the Filipino City of Golden Friendship, Cagayan de Oro -- comes from scoring four consecutive knockout wins, including a victory in the Kingdom of Thailand. That was good enough to get ranked as world's # 10 by the WBC.

Still, the young Pinoy warrior does not strike fans as much threat to Menayothin's long and illustrious reign as a dominating WBC minimumweight king.

Yet, in the sweet science anything can happen.

The Menayothin vs Rementizo event will be a production of Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions.

Rementizo is promoted by Filipino men of boxing Wowie Adnan and Brico Santig of the Highland Boxing Team; while the fearsome Wanheng Menayothin is handled by veteran Thai promoters Panya Prachakorn and Piyarat Wachirarattanawong of Petchyindee Boxing Promotions.

Wanheng Menayothin is the biggest bum-fighting belt-holder in boxing. Dude will retire at 70-0 and never have fought more than three or four opponents with a pulse. Thammanoon Niyomtrong, the WBA belt-holder would kick his azz but they'll never fight

Not sure it's really that poor considering the state of his division, with like 250 guys or whatever. He is at worst the #2 in the world and arguably #1. A lot of his victims are still top 15 fighters or better last time I checked. The other Thai should fight more, I don't hold it against Wanheng that he stays busy, it's no worse than not fighting at all. He and Nymtrong have the same promoter, or at least did, and it wasn't just Wang being kept away from the fight.

There are fewer fighters but I can't remember him fighting anyone in the top 5 in the division in his six years as alphabet belt holder, other than when he won his belt against a mediocre 14-4 fighter who hasn't won since then. Niyomtrong has consistently fought better opposition

One of the guys he beat recently is the IBF champ at the moment, just to give an immediate example. And his last opponent Konco is still a top 10 fighter (Boxrec has him at 4, ESPN at 5, PBO at 8). Maybe you expect too much for a fighter in this division? Beating a current champ and a guy ranked in multiple spots as top 5 ain't that awful

Yeah Taduran (ranked 12th by boxrec) won a vacant belt and hadn't beaten anyone leading up to the Menayothin fight, so undoubtedly wasn't a top 5 fighter (and still isn't). You're correct the 19-6 Konkco is ranked 4th by boxrec, I am guessing because he beat Joyi when he was on a bad streak four years ago. I would pick Joyi to beat him now, but you have your top 5 fighter (not sure Konkco is, but boxrec says so it must be so) so I have been proven wrong.

ESPN has Konco top 5 too, probably could easily find him there in other rankings even after losing to Wan. That's his last opponent for you, not some 14-4 guy (a normal 'top' record in this division) years ago

Taduarn is a champ and prob at least around the top 10, Last fight I thought he was getting the better of Valderas (ended a draw), who most places have around top 5 at the moment

This really isn't that poor of stuff for boxing today

People forget how much a transition weight this is, guys hardly ever stay that light for long

I wonder why Niyomtrong doesn’t fight more often. Usually the Thai champs have filler non-title fights against weaker opposition but he only seems to defend his title a couple of times a year...

As an aside, he has had 20 fights unbeaten and has either fought for or defended a belt in every fight. Are there many other fighters with that sort of record?

Moonsri's resume on his BoxRec page contains far too many little red boxes for my liking.

I want him to lose, because his resume is padded to almost preposterous levels to justify the possession of one of boxing’s most challenging records.
