Brook: Smith not big enough star for me

"Brook: Smith not big enough star for me"
Kell Brook says a fight with Liam Smith is a possibility but admits he does not think the British fighter has enough star quality for him.
He doesn’t consider Liam Smith a big enough name for him to face, because he’s
“after world titles and stars…” claiming he’s also
“got no time to waste…”.
Thoughts?

For the record, Liam Smith has engaged in five world title bouts at 154lbs, winning three of them by stoppage, only losing to two current/future world champions that were arguably much bigger than himself physically (i.e. Canelo and Jaime Munguia). These defeats took place on foreign soil.
Meanwhile, Kell Brook has engaged in six world title bouts, winning three of them by stoppage, only losing to two current world champions (i.e. Gennadiy Golovkin and Errol Spence Jr.), with these losses staged on home turf. He has also faced five current/former world titleholders.
Despite Kell Brook having a slightly better resume, statistically-speaking, he has never scored a clear-cut decisive victory over any universally regarded top-ten world-rated fighter. Even the boxing pundits from both the Box-Nation and Sky Sports UK TV networks thought he’d deserved to lose his bout against Shawn Porter.
It is important to note that it’s been 5 ½ years since Kell Brook’s most recent noteworthy performance that resulted in him having his arms raised at the end of a bout.
Kell Brook’s last three outings were fought at 154lbs, whereas Liam Smith has campaigned at that weight class for the entirety of his career.
Coincidentally, neither Brook nor Smith are considered amongst the top-ten world-rated fighters in any of the three weight classes between 147lbs to 160lbs by The RING or ESPN.
However, Kell Brook is rated 10th by the WBC for their world 154lbs ratings, whereas Liam Smith is rated 3rd by the WBO.
In my mind, Kell Brook doesn’t deserve an honorary rite of passage to being gifted a world title shot or an opportunity to face one of the sports’ biggest stars, because he hasn’t earned it and nor does he bring much money to the table.
He needs to rebuild his credibility and reputation by beating foes of a similar calibre to Liam Smith.

I like the Brook Smith fight but there's every probability that it'll end up another ppv and that just gets on my nipple ends! Smith is boring both in the ring and even more so out of it and Brook is faded. Hopefully that twat Khan climbs down from the pedestal he's put himself on and faces Brook instead. Least the build up and inevitable highlight reel ko would make that somewhat worthwhile....

A few days ago Kell Brook labelled Amir Khan “a waste of time” and wasn't interested in facing him.
It appears that Kell Brook is the one that is the "Special One" that is stood on a pedestal, because he doesn’t want to face any of his fellow world-rated countrymen.
Check for yourself, he has dismissed the idea of facing Khan or Smith.

Brook would jump at the Khan fight. It's Khan that's held it up. I'd imagine his comments were spoken out of frustration as he's been embarrassingly chasing Khan to no avail for years now...

Perhaps you’re right – you probably are.
That being said, Brook avoided facing his highest-rated title contender and mandatory challenger, Errol Spence Jr. for fifteen months, and only agreed to face the American after running the risk of being stripped of his IBF title if he failed to participate in the purse bid process.
And Brook has no valid reason for not taking the Smith fight, because it would provide him with a decent payday and a guaranteed world title shot opportunity. It's a big fight and one that would likely headline a PPV event.
Finally, mainstream casuals will believe that Brook is ducking Khan, based purely on him expressing disinterest in that bout. He should be held accountable for his own words and conduct.

I was a Brook fan since the start and persevered with him for years but i'm pretty fed up of him now. His career has been a bit of a waste and he's totally underachieved. I'm also bored with Khan as well. He clearly doesn't take boxing seriously anymore.

Said it before and now looks like i'm correct , Brook will avoid Smith like the plague , would Smith beat him , don't know really , but Brook won't take the chance anyway ,, Brook is just another ducker , based on one lucky win and two defats he really does think he's up there with the greats , and thats why he won't fight Smith and if Khan was to say OK big mouth make 147 and we'll do it , you know what i think Brook would demand 70-30 and price himself out of it .

Which 154 lb title is Brook exactly in line for? The PBC guys are going to be in inhouse fights and rematches. If Brook beats Smith people might be more inclined to want to see him fight for a title.

It's a pretty laughable claim when you look at who he has been fighting. I mean sure, GGG, Spence, and Porter are good, but that's 3 fights out of 40 and then everything else is like C level or worse
Smith would easily be his second best win at worst

It wouldn't be a big fight.
I really don't understand Brook at all.
He disappeared for the whole of 2018, then returns with a win and is now claiming he's not interested in this person and that person.
I can understand him dismissing Khan, as Amir is not serious about fighting and just wants to be a celebrity boxer (although I do ultimately believe Brook would fight Khan in a flash), but dismissing Smith is plain stupid on his part.
Brook isn't a big enough star to be turning down opportunities, because he might not get another if he does.

Aye maybe depending how ghastly Brook would look making the weight.

At first, I thought you meant 47 years old.
Then again, that wouldn't surprise me; Amir had a monumental TWO fights in one year last year and even though one of them was an unofficial exhibition, he might need about 17 years to recover.

They should fight one and other to stay relevant for the world stage. Some bigger fight down the line for the winner.
Both has fought bigger names and got whoop'd. Enough said. They might be top tire but still need to fight somebody that is somewhat of a threat. Otherwise. Why care?

Kell Brook has engaged in only one bout since the last fourteen months (against Mark DeLuca).
Over the same time period, Amir Khan has faced Terence Crawford and Billy Dib, with the former considered amongst the top three pound-for-pound elite, with the latter being a former world champion that had previously engaged in seven world title bouts.
You might not like what I’ve written, because it opposes your derogatory thoughts, but my words actually reflect reality. You can’t disprove these facts.

Seconded.
EO sometimes feels the need to post patronising replies telling folk what is obvious, presumably because none of us have ever watched any boxing matches before.
