Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders received offers for Canelo fight and rejected them!

Eddie Hearn and Oscar De La Hoya have since both confirmed that Callum Smith rejected GBP's initial offer, but they disagree on the purse amount being offered.

Top Rank vice president, Carl Moretti, has also ruled-out the prospect of a bout between Canelo and Murata, because the Mexican wants his next bout staged in Las Vegas on May 2nd.

Thoughts? :-?

Have GBP submitted lowball offers to both Saunders & Smith and then subsequently proclaimed “duck” or "greed" after they were rejected? :-?

No doubt there's hydration clauses which are completely unreasonable. Either everyone does it for every fight or nobody does it at all. Canelo will want the upper hand as usual.

Hearn wants GBP to offer Smith and/or Saunders at least $12m, because that is what Jacobs and Kovalev earned.

However, Smith and Saunders are not known in the US. Only Canelo fans will tune in. Smith and Saunders don't even have a BIG following in the UK.

It's been denied that hydration clauses have been offered as part of the deals.

standard negotiation techniques in play , dont be surprised if they end up announcing a fight against someone else entirely.

GBP have claimed the likes of Jermall Charlo, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Sergey Kovalev, Gennadiy Golovkin, Billy Joe Saunders and Callum Smith have all rejected bouts against Canelo at some point or another.

Even Top Rank are claiming that a deal is unlikely to be made between their man, Ryota Murata, and Canelo.

GBP’s failure to secure marquee bouts is allegedly one of the reasons why Canelo and Oscar De La Hoya supposedly have a strained relationship with each other.

So something has to be wrong?

Should the blame fall squarely on the shoulders of those that rejected GBP’s offer or is Oscar De La Hoya imposing unreasonable terms, such as low-ball purse offers, rehydration clauses, catchweight stipulations etc.?

Oscar De La Hoya is the promoter. It’s his job to arrange fights for Canelo. He needs to explain the reason why his offers keep getting rejected.

Canelo won’t be directly involved in the matchmaking, promotion or the negotiations of fights. He won't be able to provide any specific details... and there's no reason for us to expect him to either.

Canelo did previously issue a statement to the media expressing his displeasure at GBP, when he blamed them for the loss of his IBF belt, due to De La Hoya failing to agree terms with Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

Personally-speaking, I think Canelo and GBP will go their separate ways in the near future, because their relationship is very frosty at the moment… and De La Hoya keeps failing to secure marquee bouts for the Mexican star.

There’s a video of Eddie Hearn on iFL TV confirming that Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders have both only received one offer that didn't represent market value, hence the reason why they were rejected.

He said that fighter purses have been inflated recently due to the PBC, ESPN+ and DAZN entering the market. Eddie also said that he has the same problem promoting AJ, because he has to overpay opponents in order to make fights happen.

He went on to say that “you can’t offer one world champion X amount” and then submit an offer to another world champion that is “half the value of X”, hence the reason why those offers were rejected.

He said they didn’t expect total parity to the sums other fighters received, but something much better than the amounts on offer.

Apparently, Oscar De La Hoya hasn’t made any effort yet to propose any revised offers.

He confirmed that DAZN have sanctioned Smith and Saunders as ideal opponents for Canelo. And Eddie believes that the fighter that gets the Canelo bout will be the man willing to accept the smallest purse - no other criteria will be used.

Nothing is weird. Canelo has always been cheap and this has been aggravating with raising of his superstardom.

Wasn't it team Canelo that rejected Saunders?

What were the offers?

We have seen multiple fighters reject Canelo's first offer and end up making far more

Eddie Hearn didn't actually disclose the monetary amounts, but he strongly hinted (to extremes) that both offers were 50% the amounts received by Jacobs and Kovalev.

Read my previous post in this thread for details, since I quote his words verbatim.

Andrade said he'd fight Canelo at 168. He must be a bad style match up or something, because he is with DAZN, and got no offer.

(name of guy who Bandog fellates) said he'd fight anyone. Since not everyone has fought him, it's clearly everyone elses fault and everyone is a ducker and it's them to blame for (name of guy who Bandog fellates) lame boring career. (f@cking awful opponent's name) is really the best guy out there he can actually face at the moment cuz everyone else is ducking. Oh, and did you know Crawford offered Khan more than he offered Garcia.

And of course, never mind when a guy like 'anywhere, anytime, any money to fight AJ' Oriz feebly turns down the fight he was calling for, or when Andrade bitches out of a Charlo fight to face Culcay. Waah, waah, everyone else's fault, they all ducking :oo

Ya know dude (if you are a dude) you are a pathetic excuse for a boxing fan. You are very close to EO on this forum as far as respectability. Your hate for guys like Andrade and other guys is unfounded and pathetic, and shows your lack of not only intelligence, but shows you are down right stupid. I don't personally care deeply about any boxer, but am a fan and want to watch good fights, and am here to debate fights,. I am too damn old to put up with lame ass punks like you, or let your idiotic posts bother me. WTF is wrong with you? I don't pick fights but am very good at ending them.

Callum got beat by Ryder(Rocky Fielding's leftover lol) and BJS had poor matches against stiffs since the Lemieux fight. If Oscar offered them around 6-7 M's then they should take it or leave it. :box:

Canelo has Munguia or GGG as backup fights. So he is in no rush. :TU:

Maybe that's why Golovkin's fight has been pushed to May? It is possible that Sheremeta will get good step aside money.

Gennadiy Golovkin doesn't need to adhere to any official deadline imposed by the IBF, so he can withdraw from the Kamil Szeremeta bout without having to pay step-aside money.

That being said, it’s hard to imagine GBP being able to successfully negotiate the terms of another Canelo-GGG bout within such a tight timescale, because it’s only ten weeks to the Cinco de Mayo fight-date and both men would require a full training camp.

Previous negotiations between the Canelo and Golovkin camps have been long arduous processes.

Possible but even more so G could dump that ibf strap anytime if Oscar and Canelo say to him 'let's have a third fight on cinco de mayo'. :box:

If Oscar and Canelo want G on cinco de mayo ain't gonna be a big issue. They would make lots of money. :box:

I’m only describing the situation that occurred when GBP and GGG previously negotiated the Canelo-Golovkin bouts.

There was a lot of money on the line back then, but it was still challenging and time-consuming for both teams to agree terms.
