Should the Covid 19 thing drag on, could a promoter make money with a no crowd PPV.
Imagine you have fights in a studio or boxing gym with just the fighters, ref, judges, doctor, corner men and cameras.
And people watch the show from home.
Could that work ? It wouldn't be ideal but could it work ?

I think so and I also think it should be attempted. I haven’t seen a live sporting event in two weeks and it already feels like two years.

I do think it would be far easier to quarantine two fight camps than it would be to pull off a league sport right now.

A pay per view boxing match would have zero competition right now.

In Australia we are televising crowd-less AFL games (football). If other sports such as this are doing so, I don’t see why boxing can’t.

My guess is we will see less in demand fights and/or high profile fights. That these would be deferred until after this is resolved as the live Gate earnings is not something to ignore.

So, maybe we will be seeing more mismatches and cans. So not a big change for boxing.

There was supposed to be an event in Hallandale, Florida at Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino yesterday on 3/20/2020. I read that they were considering having the event with no spectators and live stream it on PPV. They decided to postpone the event instead to 5/23/2020. I don't know if two months is enough time for this virus to go away in South Florida, but we'll see.

That won’t work and is unlikely to ever happen, because it goes against advice supplied by the various governments around the globe.

It might be feasible if the event was staged in a geographical location that is either unaffected or barely affected by the COVID19 virus.

Australia is behind many countries, such as Italy, UK and the US, in terms of the coronavirus curve.

In fact, the Aussie government has only just announced the possibility of lockdowns.

Like I said before, boxing events could still be staged in geographical locations that are either unaffected or barely affected by the coronavirus.

They won’t be staged in countries where the government has banned or advised against group gatherings.

Apparently we are stopping this now. We will be in lockdown by Tuesday. If this thing extends for 6 months, who knows it may, then I could see no ‘live spectator’ boxing but who knows. It’s a very different time.

It would depend on what state or country the card took place in. There's no way you could do it in NY or CA right now, the state governments wouldn't allow it.

Also there's the question of how the fighters could get good training in under these conditions.

I disagree, if you just limited attendance to the essential people (fighters, corner, ref, medical and cameras, etc.) less than 50 people would be present and could all be pre-tested. The fight could go on and people could watch from home. And Boxing stays active during the Pandemic. So, there is a point.

In the real world, it’s not going to happen within countries affected by the coronavirus.

Disagree with me as much as you want, but opinions on the matter are irrelevant.

It’s actually a monumentally stupid idea to take critical medical personnel away from hospitals for the sake of staging a boxing bout for entertainment purposes.

Whoever can get this done- a decent card on PPV only- will rake it in.
Blokes be jittery with no sport on.
I bet if the fight is promoted well, and why should it not be, as all the sporting shows have nothing else to bang on about, the it will gain a lot of casual fans. Nothing wrong with that.
