Fantasy Boxing Idea
Posted: 24 Mar 2020, 13:53
With no boxing available due to the Corona virus pandemic we have decided to put together a fantasy boxing game on to the main BoxRec site - available to anybody logged in.
The aim is that the game needs to be simple and open to anyone to join, even if it's been running for a while.
Here is a brief summary of the initial idea:
Players start by creating their stable and giving it a name.
Each player has an initial budget of x amount of dollars.
From a pool of boxers spanning all divisions and years a player buys 10 boxers.
The 10 can be from any division but at least 1 from each of the traditional main 8 divisions.
It is up to the player how they spend their money.
Each week a new schedule of fights will be published.
Every fighter from the original pool of fighters will be scheduled to fight each week.
As a player you must choose which 5 of your fighters you are going to promote that week
Only those 5 fighters will be eligible for points
From the 5 the player can choose 1 fighter to be the main event. Main event fighters receive double points
For each of the player's 5 chosen fighters they can predict how the fight will conclude, the points scored or the round stopped
BoxRec will calculate the results for all bouts
A published scoring mechanism will be used to allocate points to players for their fighters
For example points for winning, more points for predicting score or round or type of stoppage etc
During the week a player can trade a fighter from their stable, but must always have 10 fighters
Only 1 transfer per week is allowed, however this can be rolled over for a maximum of 1 week
A fighters value changes depending on performance and also popularity
There is also a selling fee for any profit made (from the virtual dollars!)
Players league tables will be available for each week as well as a cumulative chart
The all-time cumulative chart may be based on averages or minimum number of weeks so as not to penalise late comers
The idea is that this should be simple and easy and just a bit of fun with some fantasy match-ups whilst we are in these difficult times.
Things like the budget, number of fighters, scoring system will all change but does anybody have any thoughts on this at all?
Any better ideas or any glaring issues or omissions?
Thanks
Dan
