I’m going to be hypocritical now, by posting a fantasy fight, because I am bored, due to the fact there are no decent real-world bouts to talk about.

So after you’ve vented all your venomous hatred towards me, relax, take a deep breath and please let me have your thoughts about the following fantasy fight:

• Carl Froch vs. Gennadiy Golovkin (at 164lbs, with the bout staged in the UK, because that's the most lucrative venue)

Before you automatically make a judgement, let me make it perfectly clear which versions of both fighters I’m referring to:

• Carl Froch vs. George Groves II (36 years & 11 months)
• Gennadiy Golovkin vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko (37 years & 6 months)

I’ve specifically chosen that criteria, because I wanted to pit the current version of GGG against the equivalent version of Froch.

Thoughts?

At 164, I‘d say Golovkin points. I just think he has the better skills. Carl would make him work for it though.

Wouldn't be easy. But GGG can take it.

Froch outpoints Golovkin, not just because he’s on his own turf, but also due to the fact that he appeared to be in better shape (or nearer his prime) than GGG's performance against Derevyanchenko.

The rugged Brit’s resume is much better than anybody Golovkin has ever faced, except for Canelo, but he’s also bigger and busier than the Mexican.

If Canelo, Daniel Jacobs & Sergiy Derevyanchenko was able to withstand Golovkin’s biggest blows, whilst returing fire, then the (near) 37-year-old version Carl Froch should be able to also.

At 164? That wouldn’t suit Froch.

Froch would win. Golovkin lost to Derevyancheko on my cards. Froch was even a tougher opponent. Froch would edge the fight and secure a close decision.

The weight would be a problem I don't know how tight froch was at 168 but I'd imagine 164 would be struggle .if it was 168 I'd pick froch just because I think golovkin is past it now not completely shot but faded

I think Froch started his training camp for the Ward fight weighing 175lbs. I could be wrong, but I thought his rehydration weight when he entered the right against the SOG was 172lbs.

Froch was 176.5lbs on the first day of his 12-week training camp for the Yusaf Mack bout, weighing 171lbs during fight-week.

He also claimed he weighed on 172lbs when he entered the ring for the Bute bout.

The Brit lived the life of a professional athlete, which meant he strictly maintained his weight and athleticsim between bouts.

He didn't do a Lamont Peterson or a Ricky Hatton, by blowing up between bouts.

Froch too big, too strong at any ages

It boggles my mind how many go for GGG with these two, it is very clear that Froch had the absolute nightmare style and attributes for him. Extremely strong, durable, significantly bigger, and with the will to assert himself even vs guys who hit him....vs a guy who can't fight getting pushed back. It would be like Derev-Geej but much more in Froch's favour

I do think that Froch lack the skillset to handle GGG. The thing is that Froch is bigger, more raw and would be clock'd in every round by a right cross til the final bell. That is my take on it. Good fight overall. Both guys got a shot. But in favor of GGG here. But, he has to work all night for that W.

That's true. I'd say also Geej never scored a clear win over a top level fighter

Froch would back ggg up. Ggg is very very hittable and froch is a harder puncher than anyone golovkin has faced. Froch would grind it out

Also...

I saw froch get a ko win when down on the cards against taylor.... that took some huge guts. I saw him get ouyboxed by groves and knock him out..
. I saw GGG lose the last 3 rounds in the biggest fight of his life against Canelo. I saw him get tired against derevyanchenko and jacobs

You think GGG of 2019 is still elite?

When was ggg prime? When he was beating the great curtis stevens?

In 2014 Golovkin would beat Froch at 168. 2019 Golovkin has too much wear and tear.

Why choose that version of Golovkin? He’s shot to bits. Peak vs peak Golovkin who beat Lemieux gets behind his jab and wins on points vs the Froch who beat Bute

The last sentence in the first post of this thread already answers you question.

Froch isn't making 164 healthily at that point, which would destroy his best asset - gameness. Loses the fight before entering the ring. GGG still finished the Derevyanchenko fight strong, like the punishment he took earlier amounted to nothing.
