I used to watch his fights and wonder how in the world he was there in the first place. No defense.Slow wide arcing punches.
Horrible footwork. And looking, his punches appeared to be arm punches.
Even though he'd been in with some great fighters and beaten some,it just didn't seem right.

Then one bored night I was watching old fights and started paying more attention to him.He was ferocious. He still had all the shortcomings but apparently was a much harder puncher than I gave him credit for.His chin had always been his best attribute, but the tenacity and fire he fought with was becoming more noticeable.

I remember seeing Navarette (a hard puncher)slapping him around pretty much the whole fight til that big combination out of nowhere to win the fight.

Same with Choi. One twos constantly stealing the fight til that first good body shot when he rolled around in agony.

I bet many a fighter was unpleasantly surprised after getting in the ring.
He's one of those guys that you see all his flaws and think "I'm about to cut him up real good" then wake up with the referee in your face telling you to just lay there it's ok.

Yes I remember thinking Limon looked fairly amateurish at times considering the success he had. Very exciting guy in his prime.

He fought on for a long time when he was just fighting for paychecks basically, but in his prime he was fantastic, and his 1982 Fight of the Year with Bobby Chacon is one of my all time favorite fights.

His fight with Chacon was so awesome because both were vulnerable and pretty shopworn at that point. The fact that Chacon was able to put on a supreme effort against Boza-Edwards the next fight was pretty amazing. Limon's fight with Boza-Edwards and Navarette were classics too. He always looked terrible but he kept coming forward and he had an astonishing chin. Reminded me a little of a less skilled, slightly more vulnerable Jose Luis Ramirez, although Ramirez could punch harder.

Yeah he was wild.I always wondered what the heck he was doing in those matches but apparently he belonged.
