Ken Norton was scheduled to fight in a preliminary on the Frazier vrs Ali card at Madison Square Garden in March 1971,
but it was cancelled at the last minute.
anyone know who Norton was supposed to fight ?

I saw some footage of Frazier sparring Jimmy Young today...think that may have been in prep for Ali #1

It is too bad that Norton and Frazier never fought. If Foreman and Ali never existed, they probably would have.
Always thought that Norton would have given Frazier a lot more trouble than most people seem to think.

Norton became Frazier's sparring partner in 1969 just before his fight with Jimmy Ellis.

Interesting how often this happened. Holmes was a sparring partner at different times for both Frazier and Ali. Walcott was for Louis and Jeffries was for Corbett.

I had read about that too! Would have been funny to see. There is footage of a middle age Corbett sparring with Tunney.

Holmes was a sparring partner to Frazier for the Thrilla in Manilla.
Those must have been intense sparring sessions.

They also sparred basically a year prior to their 1892 fight. Corbett basically figured he had what it took to beat Sullivan after that encounter, which was only four rounds, but Sullivan was only interested in acting on the stage at this point in his career and was holding on to the title longer than he should have had it.

A year prior to that (1890) the Gladstone Athletic Club of Providence made Sullivan an offer of $1,000 to spar Corbett four rounds, but Sullivan didn't take it up. Sullivan was easily making that kind of money per week acting on the stage and was sparring Steve Taylor on a daily basis.
