Does Buster merit induction?

No, much more so than vitali. But induction off of past mistakes is a faulty methodology. He is a bit underrated resume wise being thought of as a one hit wonder, but he falls well short.

He's worthy for sure. His resume is solid and his biggest win is more valuable, than the majority of biggest wins of other fighters.

His resume is far from solid. One big win and plenty of 'falling short.' A bit above Mediocrity isn't a box that gets checked for HOF.

I'd say no, for me it's about consistency at the top level, not one shock win.

He had wins over McCall, Page and Berbick. Although Berbick already was on a decline at that point, so this win has a lesser value. Tyson win is obviously a legendary one, especially acknowledging how Douglas outclassed Tyson. He can be called a top fighter of his era and this fact alongside with the huge historical significance of the Tyson win is quite HOF worthy, I'd say.

Using the standard of he has better wins than johannson he gets in. Using a standard of having truly great fighters he doesnt make it

It's the Hall of Fame, not the hall of consistency or longevity. By that standard he seems more than deserving. Wins don't come any bigger.

No
One big win, no matter how big doesn't make you a Hall of Famer to me.

Leon beat Ali, Tyson was prime and Ali was obviously past it but it was an equally huge global win.
Hall of great doesn't roll off the tongue like hall of fame. He doesn't even belong on the ballot.

Spinks can't even be compared with Douglas. Ali was old, semi-retired and way past prime. Tyson was seen as invincible by many. Spinks' career overall wasn't that successful either. His other wins aren't close to the other wins of Douglas and Spinks had much more lowlights than Douglas.

You let Douglas in and it opens a flood gate of other fighters who equally don't deserve the accolade.

Some, who arguably deserve it less than Douglas, are already in.

Doesn't change the fact that Douglas isn't HOF worthy.

Douglas will never be on the ballot. Being more accomplished than vitali doesn't mean much, hundreds of fighters not in the hof are.

The worst argument for a guy to get in is "well others are in who are less deserving"
Who exactly? Lets discuss

I get the arguments against him but his win over Tyson is bigger than 20 defences against good opponents. Fighting prime Holyfield will end nearly everybody's reign, be it six months or 10 years.

Jess Willard is in about the same situation and he was inducted.

Lol, so you consider Douglas win over Tyson more impressive than Larry Holmes title reign? That's insanity.

Agree, I hate seeing that, I made a list before but there are loads and loads of good but hardly great guys just active now who should be inducted going by that standard---why water things down with more diarrhea inductions?
Plus no one still to be inducted is going to be facing those 'worst cases' on the ballot in the future anyway
